let's leave aside the cultural differences and say the entire world is one country, how will it be governed? you can't have 1 president for 7 billion people, so it would have to be divided anyway -> countries are formed
by forming countries you make a divide, so germans will be proud germans and swedes will be proud swedes, because my country is the best! anyway, that's just basic human nature.
so let's say you want to remove this basic human nature thing, and everyone is brothers with everyone, even though i probably never met a chinese person in my life and can't speak chinese (example). does that even make sense?
if NOBODY was nationalistic, then nationalism wouldn't be needed, but since pretty much everyone has different views, then nationalism becomes a necessity so the people can have something in common to unite them. it's easier to advance in everything when you have a good country, and a good country only exists when the people in it have something in common with the rest
