Well...the thing is, what other options did he have? He was so far behind that any fighting item (treads, yasha) wouldn't have made any difference. The only hope for fights was flawless burrow/epi/wall next to SS wards stopping the push...but VG didn't clump up and they bought a pipe, so game was over.
@Sleave: As you said, they couldn't stand against VG's pressure, so they had two options:
1. Buy any 2k gold item (blink/yasha), try to fight and lose no matter what.
2. Buy a midas, try to stall the game to lategame and have a minimal chance of comeback.

RTZ itself has said plenty of times that midas has a huge impact on games and people should stop grabbing it everytime. The kid is one of the best players in the world (he's top 3 for a reason), so I highly doubt he got it without knowing what he was doing.
but midas would make him even more useless, by the flow of the match he wouldnt be able to use it more than 3 times (i think he only used once actually). atleast with yasha/drums he gets some dmg, AS, MS, its better than a midas, by that point they couldnt even leave their base lol theorically fighting high ground would favor them so a battle item would benefit them more
buuut... VG was just too far ahead it wouldnt matter anyway, i just wanted to know why he would go for midas, but he could have gone for rapier the outcome would be the same
