Congratulations. Wish you and your family all the best
And enjoy sleepless night due to diaper changing
don't worry you can come back for a couple games a night when he turns 4 or 5. may even as early as 2 or 3 but i think later is better.
-dad of six year old
can we talk about how hes basically married at age of 19-20
or im just being retarded cuz being together =/= married
Perhaps his idea of a good life is to settle down with his wife instead of chasing skirts in clubs and stuff. I think its pretty romantic.
Congrats my dude
Pretty cool that you were still able to maintain your gaming life after marriage, especially if youf GF-now your wife-isn’t a gamer. I lucked out and got a GF who also games
When your kids grow up don’t forget to show them these forums, saying “I was a crazy lad back when I was your age” lol
Jack - I think Volvo and Gaben will release HL3 and Dota3 as he releases his last breath.
Judging by his physical condition and age ; coupled to the wear on the flipflops...
I'm guesstimating your kid will be just the right age to play both on release.
See you in 2 years, by then your kid will be old enough to actually let you sleep and take breaks!
Good luck and have fun.
Thanks all. Maintaining gaming life after marriage was a little tricky, you just have to find a balance. My trick was to do it from the start and form a system where 10pm And later is me time any time before that is time spent with the wife otherwise she feels neglected. This will just add a new challenge is all.
My wife is awesome I just didnt plan on kids for another few years oh well. No regrets getting married this early.
Nope dont look forward to sleepless nights.
Hey Jack. Believe it or not, I have just returned to DotA when my son got born (he got 6 months old yesterday). I just go by the same routine you have already described. The kid goes to sleep around 8-9 pm. We spend some time with the wife, watch some Netflix and then after 10-11 pm is my DotA time.
The only problem is if you stay too late (that happens way too often) and it is the same night when your little one decides to get fussy, morning might be a bit challenging.
I'm expecting my own bundle of joy in a couple of month but I'm not as pessimistic as you seem to be mate. On the other hand I don't play that much to begin with so I'm hoping to still put in a few games a week. Either way, congratulations!
Married for 6years with 2years old daughter..
I know its hard to play in this moment..
I skip a lot at 7.00 til 7.20
But I'm happy
Hey kid i wish you all best and happy family forever, but i do think you can manage to have a game time to time, please don't leave this forum or i gonna be sad.
Honestly, it all depends on how much effort is split between the wife and the husband. In some cultures like Russian, girls do the most of the job and husband is being active with the kid on one of the weekends (so it is 90/10), but that is often alleviated by grandparents of the mother (so it gets 70/20/10). In western Europe it is 60/40 and grand parents do not invest/help much, so basically the most you get is (50/10/40). Therefore, my russian friends play games in almost unchanged schedule, but western one give up their fictional "pro" career for good
PS The main problem with the baby is not a sleepless night or two, it is the accumulated amount of sleeplessness and tiredness... slow but steady accumulation is hard to imagine though
PPS Parents of the husband are typically a stress factor that makes having the baby more tiresome
Congrats! I have a 3 and 5yr old. Wife hates me playing but I can usually get a handful of games in each week.
Don't play ranked though because I guarantee she will come in half way through a game with an angry look in her eyes and hand you a screaming baby :-)
Didnt realize so many people here with kids. Always felt the player base was like kids age 16-22 thanks for showing me gaming life isnt over. Also thanks p9 didnt realize I was even popular with anyone. XD
I never got this fixation people have with “quitting gaming” once they’ve grown up/settled down/married/had kids.
It’s like a remnant of society’s pasts telling us that playing video games is inherently a waste of time.
Will you have less time to play? Absolutely. But that’s how it is with EVERY SINGLE HOBBY. Do you think society will look up to a musician that stops practicing their instrument and playing gigs with their weekend band once they’re a parent? Absolutely not.
Reading. Running. Going to the movies. Bowling with friends. Surfing. Heck, WATCHING TV. These are all pasttimes that are perfectly healthy in moderation, and will eat up pretty much the same amount of time as Dota.
If playing Dota makes you happy, keeps your senses up, gets you hyped up for tournaments and patch notes, and possibly even keeps you in touch with your e-friends, WHY GIVE IT UP COMPLETELY?
