That's not "meta", that's retarded. Riki benefits from agility, which atos provides none of. The reason why diffusal is perfect for riki is that it can purge dusts and silences, slow somebody and give you a ton of damage because of your passive. If you get RoA you're literally throwing 3k down the drain for some slows. So instead of killing people in purge/smoke duration, you intend to slow them down so much that you can take much longer to kill them. That's not how DotA works, that's fucking retarded.
Also, you need to build aditional lockdown items after you spend your diffusal charges if you're still going to gank people, the thing is, once people start getting BKBs and ghost scepters and start five manning it's pretty much over for a riki unless he's waaaay ahead. If you get an Atos you won't be ahead, you'll just have shitty damage.
If you want a "new meta" for riki. Go for ethereal dagon with him. Works very well as long as you can play safe.

I tried Atos when my Diffusal charges were used up, but it was really shit and 3.1k gold were wasted for nothing. Especially when people are already going BKB, Atos does nothing good and you would have gotten yourself a Basher or Eaglesong. In late game or even mid game you will feel useless when they group up with your items not scaling with theirs just because you threw away 3.1k worth of items when they did utilize their farm buying the correct items as you were trying to get Atos.
I would say that even a 2nd Diffusal doesn't hurt as much as an Atos does.
Do you sell the first diffusal blade to help pay for the second? To be honest, I've usually got an abyssal before I run out of charges.
You just buy the recipe again and you get more charges. First time will up you to diffusal 2 and second time will refresh the charges but I've never used that many.
^ I read that from a patch note, so I thought it works that way. However when I tried it, it still didn't. Not too sure of why, but when you had Diffusal Blade 2 and buy another recipe, its charges don't replenish like Drums do. That's exactly why I went for Atos (and sucked).
Honestly IDK if that has changed. Haven't been playing him for a while.
mask of madness + basher isn't that good cus the lifesteal is wasted on riki and you do more dmg getting agi like a yasha for a bit more. Basher is quite good if you need more lockdown but it's not reliable. But I'd go diffusal, s&y (riki is a slow fucker, get move % plus agi plus a slow proc), basher if needed or butterfly if basher not needed.
Basher is really good to be upgraded into Abyssal Blade so it doesn't just fall off late game (does it? lel). It can be useful to stop TPs, so as 3rd item it shouldn't be a bad choice.
However I agree that MoM isn't a good choice on Riki. Especially when you can't force people to stay in your smoke for longer, and they actually fight back. The damage amplification would backfire the entire purpose of buying MoM.
the question was not abput whether mom or basher are good items for riki separately, it was about a very old awkward midgame-oriented build which gives a lot of killing potential with small money investment, but makes you very squishy and doesnt scale well into lategame.
Basher is a good item if you're building for lategame because it'll be pretty reliable once you get high attack speed, which you will since you stack agi items, and upgrades into abyssal for great damage. MoM is pretty terrible I feel, you should build riki to get attack speed from Agi items because you benefit from them so much, and usually they scale so well.

a few days ago i found out a new meta: riki with rod of atos, it is really OP becuse u can do ure first attack and slow them without having to use a diffusial and buy a new one!
