I think it depends a lot on how adaptive you are. People who are better at adapting to different circumstances will find the switch easier than ones who are not. So basically, TOP MMR players who are already very good at adapting to different situations in picks, fights, and the game in general, will find that the switch from overthrow and haunted mansion does not deteriorate their dota skills, or even if they play completely different games like CS and PlanetSide or Warframe. However, people who spam one hero and focus on only one aspect of the game, and are generally pretty bad players will find it much harder, since their main strength in the game is actually focusing almost completely on a few things, which a switch to a completely different game mode negates, let alone a whole different game.
So really, I think if you're adaptive, responsive to change, a generally well rounded player and have good awareness of what happens, those games can't hurt you (aside from you having marginally less classical dota experience because of playing those other game modes and completely different games, obviously).
Getting really good at overthrow increases your mechanical skills and ability to kill people a lot, at least it did in my case. For other modes i cant say, but this one is imo most teachful.
Custom modes fuck with your normal dota gamesense. I woudln't recommend playing 2 much of it.
Overthrow can be used to practice hero ability mechanics/fighting (I got better at lina euls timing while playing overthrow).
Custom game named "Neutral camp spawn boxes" actually helps to increase your skill (as a support, mostly).

Is it a case of practice makes perfect? dat playing non doto can really deteriorate your doto skills in time? Based on your experience, wat happened?
