I`d be really interested to see a top 20 most picked per mmr ranges ... say ... 500 points apart. I think it would tell an interesting story.
For example, i`m at 3.7 solo, 4k party. when i play party, usually highest mmr is somewhere between 4.2 and 4.8, and the difference in picks is huge. the higher the overall mmr, the more they people tend to pick meta-heroes.
When i play solo, however, picks vary a freaking lot. Which is also cool, i get to play non-meta heroes and have fun with it

The difference between meta and non-meta heroes is not as big as you think it is. Team composition, counters and familiarity with a hero most often play a bigger role, especially in the lower brackets.
What happens in the bikini bottom bracket stays in the bikini bottom bracket. This should be one of dotabuff's guidelines

I picked Brew Master the other day, and everyone on my team goes " o_O WHAT? " i'm like " what....."
They say "nothing... It was just a weird pick I don't see much that's all... I dunno if he's that good... please play well.." they say, chhhhhhhh doubting my Brew skills, get outta here kids.
He isn't picked much AT ALL though.
what's worng with warlock? he's 54.77% win rate in 6.84c.
i've got a 72.73% win rate with him in this patch.
Look at my last games and tell me how many "meta" heroes you see. Then tell me how many wins I have.
This thread is actually quite depressing. There are no shit heroes in normal skill, just shit players. A bloodseeker is just as likely to feed as get a godlike streak.
All of the heroes can be played and win 60% of the time at every MMR. It just depends on whether the player is actually good at that hero relative to the MMR level of the game.
What is popular in your pub games only seems to be stronger because lots of people have more practice on the "meta" heroes. With the possible exception of leshrac, they are not actually stronger. All heroes have plenty of hero and item counters. Bloodstone is very good right now so INT carries that like to get it do better.
If some picked warlock or doom and has no impact its because they played the hero badly - not because the hero itself is weak.

In my last game the enemy team got Lina and Bloodseeker and Necrophos - all very popular "meta" heroes. But they little impact because I played Shadow Shaman and happened to be faster than these players. So I ward trapped, hexed, euls, and shackled them before they could cast anything - I didn't even need a blink dagger to do it. BS got a bkb, but used it badly so he still got nothing done besides solo pick-offs when I was not nearby.
Games are won by skill, by outplay - not picking meta heroes. In the next game a different enemy lina might be faster than me and cast her euls first and erase my Shaman from the fight before I do anything... but this one was slower so I won instead.
Warlock has a far higher pub winrate than Lina. Warlock wins more than Bloodseeker too. Doom is slightly lower than Lina. But all of them win and lose games based on play. Even when you look at the stats for "counterpick" matchups that only moves the winrate a few %. Winrates reflect how many people who play that hero are good at it, rather than how strong the hero is. The game is very welll balanced and all heroes can be used successfully.

Because god forbid, people play heroes they want to. It's 2k, no one there is getting anywhere fast. I actually feel like people in 5k (based off streams) are way more relaxed about ranked gameplay then in 2k.
I was saying the people in my bracket aren't that good at the game and I get that. But at least play the heroes that are considered OP to at least have a better chance of winning. Warlock and Doom aren't necessarily bad in the right hands, but people in my bracket for the most part aren't considered the right hands.

U r playing at 2800 mmr which is average and garbage at the same time. Dota is not designed to be balanced at this low level of play. some heros just get countered by good team coordination which is rly lacking in low mmr. the only reason the winrates are about 50 % is the mistakes and overextensions everyone makes.
U have to realize that gaining MMR and becoming better at dota are similar but not identical things. There is some overlap but u can gain MMR by spamming buffed heros like lina leshrac in the right situation which doesnt rly improve your skill.
U must accept that u r 20 % of your team and the amount of impact u have on a game is limited so soem losses are inevitable. make sure u win the games u can win and dont get emotionally invested into games that are almost lost from picks. Just do your own part well and try hard and u will gain mmr.
without communication and teamplay u will not make it past 4200 MMR. youll also need decent equipment and internet connection. reading up on guides and watching and understanding pro scene can also be very helpful.
The only hero I noticed who fluctuates greatly based on mmr and skill level is earth spirit.
Guy wins like 39-40% normal
46% ish high
And 56% in very high skill
With that stop this low mmr doesn't mean much when something being easier is easier period. Then all the douches who smurf for I hope the only reason their main account is muted.

Does anyone else experience this often? I know I'm not the best by any means whatsoever(2.8k), but I know which heroes are strong currently and which are not. But I'm so tired of people picking a Warlock or Doom for example and having little to no impact in the match. Then the other team has Undying, Leshrac, Lina, etc. I get put off by trying to even improve my MMR because of this.
