Razor, Unkillable by most mids with his leash. Can only nuke him down. THrow some HP or a cloak and it makes him very dangerous.

Ok the reason I really dislike the 1v1 mode is because people don't use it properly. IMO the purpose of 1v1 is pure laning mechanics/playing matchups/most importantly learning but what it actually turns out to be is a competition about winning. Now don't get me wrong winning is a good thing but people have the mindset that when they play, it should be winning at all cost so they pick OP heroes: Veno, bane and brood.
Also the skill gap between players is huge.

Mirror matchup is even more useless because you won't play against the same hero in a real game. Being a good mid is about doing what you can the best while you are at a disadvantage.
Mirror heroes really help with hero mechanics but you are right it is almost completely useless. My suggestion is that you have a BO3 mirror match and the heroes selected depend on the meta/or w/e you choose.
