How to Get Teammates to Communicate? in General Discussion

As I recently got to stabilize at 2.7k mmr, I've found that there are shit talkers and blamers in every single game, whether it be enemy or ally. Maybe it's just selection bias, but I've found that there's less flamers the further down you go from 2.5k.

The problem is that people don't talk during the picking phase, or during the game, unless of course, they're winning/losing heavily, so how do I get people to talk at the beginning?

I'm hesitant to instantly mute everyone, as Dota is an extremely communication and team based game, and I fear that I will mute an actual communicator.

Despite what you think, Pub dota (specially at lower brackets) isn't written communication nor team based at all. All you need to communicate with teammates is the chat-wheel and pings. In fact, the less you focus on talking/typing, the more you focus on you mechanics and map awareness, since you will use your whole brain improving what you're shit at instead of half on improving and half trying to convince why going past the river alone with no vision as a starved crystal maiden is a bad idea.

You're not 4k+ where picks actually matter because people have decent mechanics, at 3k and below whoever gets more farm wins the game, so yeah, no need to talk about picks. Just do your job and do it well and you will win much more than you lose.

The higher you go, the more toxic it gets.

If you want team-mates that communicate, best to fill up your friends list with people you know.
