1. Until you have 100 hours of game time, don't play seriously. Just fuck about and have a laugh with friends while you learn the game. Only when one actually understands Dota can one play Dota, until then pick whatever you wanna play and lane however you fancy.
2. Just mute the flamers, no other way to deal with them
3. You WILL encounter people that don't speak your language and it WILL cost you the game at some point, suck it up and move on
4. Solo queue is Hell
5. Read "Welcome to Dota 2, you suck"
Derp around and play AD or even AI instead of normal AP at least for the first few games. Get a feel for the game first
I am just trying to make them aware of everything.
When my gf played dota (she only plays sven) I try to help her with item choices and what to do. And one day I decided she should try mask of madness.
When I play I usually manage the spells for her, like Q him/Use E and run etc.
So what happened was she got her mask of madness once. And I told her to kill a drow, said she should hit R, Q her and then just hit Space (Mask of madness). She stopped for a second and was so confused cause she never used spacebar for an item before. You had to be there :D

I advice them not to ever start playing this game, cause all you do is waste months or even years of your precious time and all u get is anger and frustration. It's one of those games that isnt just a game, everyone realized that sooner or later.
Watch videos and read guides first or you will have no clue what is happening in the game.
