ive been playing a fair bit of mid lately too, and found that if you pick a ganker like puck etc, and if you get a rune like that, you can still make plays happen, patience is the key. you have to remember that getting kills not only gets you ahead but puts your opponents behind so if you can get a couple of kills as a ganky mid hero with decent team mates then i think it is definitley worth it over farming, unless say youre close to a blink w/e.

on the other hand if you play things like SF TA morph and naga you should, in my opinion literally farm the fuck out of mid and try to get that tower asap, or at least force rotations from them to protect their tower. i hate it when my friends irl are like omfg come gank as a level 5 sf while they have no lockdown in lane and kill isnt gauranteed, its just a complete waste of time and money

He has 2.1K solo MMR and I want to say that this has "never" happened in my solo queue games not even in normal matchmaking solo queue games, its srubs like "Dotabuff prohibits Freedom" who are suffering from dunning kruger and think of themselves as professional players even at 2K and look down upon others while they themselves are the worst of the lot. I wonder why this whining retard is banned from dotabuff.

@[eXo] Eazynogoud It happens alot and when we have stunners on my team I call them to gank mid myself as well and if by some chance my team gets the carries first I take a stunner support and smoke gank continously till our mid is way far ahead.

You shouldn't gank when someone calls for you to gank, you should gank when you feel the time and situation is right.
It's a far cry from "never ganking" as you claim is right. Ganking from mid is the easiest way to turn a fair game into a stomp.

@22 Exactly its nothing to be proud of and I'm not here to stroke on my shitty 4K mmr I was looking for some info and I don't really even care about MMR (I have no problem playing with a 2k player ranked or unranked, the reason why I was in the party with the said player having 2.3) until the point when some retard with dunning kruger starts to forcefully impose his trench tier crap on me. I want to say it again 4K is nothing to be proud of and most of the dota 2 players I know are above me in MMR (maybe <4000 MMR is the average of a dota 2 player idk).

I'm pretty low myself, only 3k. But I think I'm probably one of the younger Dota players here (13). So still have probably 7(ish) more years until the game gets old for me :)

Just out of curiosity, how long have you played Dota to get to 4k? This is my first moba and I've played for 1 year. I've been told I'm not too bad for my age but I'm a lowly 3k.

@Kanade This is my first moba and I have been playing for 11 months now (almost) I used to play cs 1.6 at competitive level before this (and had no concept of moba). To improve fast I suggest you select a player (and possibly some heroes from each section support, carry and offlane) from the professional scene that matches your play style and watch your own replays, if someone tells you that you did something wrong instead of getting angry think about it and watch your replay to locate the mistake, if you keep letting the dunning kruger get the best of you thn my friend you will keep repeating your mistakes while thinking you are perfect and you will stay in your current bracket for a long long time. Watch, learn, improve. Also the 4k mmr shouldn't be your target its pretty similar to 3.5k and since I'm at an average MMR myself my advice won't have much of an impact.

I think your first goal should be to take mid tower. At least when you know where is everyone.

Your goals as mid depend on a lot of factors- what hero you are playing, what hero you are playing against, how your lanes are setup, how their lanes are setup.

For example, death prophet and dragon knight mid don't really gank. They want to hit 6 and kill the tower. Pudge wants to gank but if their mid is a farming hero like OD and he can score a kill on mid he shouldn't gank, he should stay mid and kill him. Bloodseekers only reason for existence is to gank other lanes, but even then you need to gank the lanes that are pushed out and try to kill their carries vs their off laner first unless your carry lane is getting killed and needs help.

Viper is a capable ganker but slow so you will want to farm some items first. OD, shadowfiend and sniper need farm and are probably better off staying mid vs ganking unless the gank is a sure thing- giving up that xp and gold won't be worth it if it fails.

So yeah, ganking is very situational. It also depends on their mid, is their mid a farming carry you need to shutdown? Are they a pusher you need to fend off so you don't lose the first tower? Are they a ganker that you need to control or can you let them go cus your other lanes are aware and can handle themselves while you farm? Lots of things to consider.

I understand not ganking as SF or Morphling, but TA can snowball pretty hard if you gank successfully with her.

Yeah basically. Though some heroes fall in between like viper and you need to choose the right lane to gank.

Let me start by saying that I'm currently at 5700 mmr and often play mid.

Secondly, let me say that whenever someone starts talking trash to you or telling you how to play in a pub, mute them or don't reply to them. You're never going to change their opinion, and chatting back and forth will only take focus away from the game.

Ok now some mid stuff.

It is not mid's job to gank. Even when youre playing heroes like pudge or puck, you should not feel obligated to gank.

As a mid player (whatever hero you are) it's your job to farm, get a level advantage, and hopefully keep their mid in check. Everything you do for the first part of the game should revolve around these goals. If you get a good rune at the right time, great. Of course, go gank. At the same time, however, don't feel like you have to. If you get a haste rune, for example, you can save it to beat your opponent to the next rune or just use it at an opportune moment. The end goal as a mid player is to have farm and levels for the mid game so you can help your team win important fights.

The last thing I'd like to point out is the importance of understanding the benefit of a gank. Let's say youre playing puck. You decide to gank their safe lane carry, and youre successful. Seems great, but actually it might not be. While you were gone from mid, their mid hero free farmed. Depending on the time in the game, they might have been able to push your mid tower even. After your gank, you werent able to push their tower because it's just you and your offlane clockwerk. Their carry respawns in 20-30 seconds and is back to farming. In this example, it really wasn't worth it to gank. It was actually bad. The real issue is understanding how and when to gank. The decision making here is very complex, and you just need to make sure you know what you're getting into (big picture) when you gank.

Stopped reading here, and I'm surprised I read this far. What a stupid statement. 250 gold for a kill for a 100 gold dust is 150 profit. You must be one of those players who refuse to spend 180 gold on dust because it's a "waste of money". Even 180 gold for a dust gives profit for one kill.

^ I buy dust and even wards if I need them and the support is having a hard time farming but still I refuse to gank for anything other than a guaranteed kill as to me its just waste of time, gold and xp ( especially on my carry farm oriented play style also even then I did try it sometimes and it fails mostly unless you have some very nice lock down on the lane , I can drop a tower in the mean time or pressure their supports to defend mid laying some pressure off of our carry and farm a useful item for more positive acceleration towards our main goal). I wasn't actually imposing what I was saying is the best, I had someone impose something on me which didn't make any sense and sounded like shit so I came here looking for the much experienced players to explain which way is the right direction and chocataco did that so I Got what I came for thread is done.
