True Story
Zenoth: then show me your "right statistics"
HǣL: you are so asian
Zenoth: and you are so "hey look i pull things out of my ass without stuff to support them"
HǣL: and the bad asian at that.
Zenoth: "meanwhile ill generalize people in a racist manner"
Zenoth: someone who cannot backup his statements with statistics and resorts to racism
Zenoth: is a typical example
Zenoth: of someone who blames systems
Zenoth: for his own faults
Judging by the numbers I see at the end of a ranked game, I don't think we can ask for more from matchmaking. Maybe just some more party restrictions.
I vote that anyone who takes HǣL seriously be barred from posting on this forum. Who's with me?
maybe this will help
Logical fallacy:
A logical fallacy is, fundamentally, an error in logic. This means that an argument that uses one certainly doesn't hold if you're using logic and reason as your source of decision making - although it doesn't stop people from using them or being swayed by them.
(People who want to sound smart: hael doto) tend to use the Latin (or some cases, Dog-Latin) names to refer to them. Others, who don't care about being too diplomatic when bringing them up, will just cry bullshit and carry on. There are two forms of a logical fallacy, formal and informal.
isnt logical fallacy a form of damage control but you try to sound smart to avoid the question?
no it's just appealing to emotion and illogical arguments.
A typical example is 'ad hominem' fallacies, where the integrity/quality of the person giving the argument is questioned and used to downplay the argument. However, the truth value of an argument is irrelevant to the person saying it. For example, a smoker who tells you that smoking is bad may be a hypocrite, but he is not wrong. An example of the fallacy would be to say "oh but you smoke, so you must be lying, so smoking cannot be as bad as you make it out to be".
how chinese are you
like are you ethnically chinese? can you read chinese? why is your area SEA and not china etc
Singaporean Chinese, fluent in dialects, can read traditional/simplified.
Half the people here are "pure-blood Chinese", if you want to put it that way, although nobody really identifies that much with China much.
the current girl I am seeing is from Hong Kong and I got a long boring history lesson on how all of them are completely different because they where born 50 feet from each other -_-
every community for every game says the same :D Omg worst community ever its so toxic etc etc gaming is dying. Hell when i played Utopia when it had like 100k players the toxicity and hatred was far worse than anything ive seen in dota :p but that is to be expected when weeks of work can go down in days
I still remember the fake passport scandal when I was play WoW :D (people where committing federal crimes to have a edge on the pvp scene :P)
Zenoth, arguments of hypocrisy are ad hominem and are common enough to have a more refined name: Ad hominem tu quoque. The comversation with Heal in the original post is insane. I just don't comprehend people who think like he does.
i don't even think that was a proper "counterargument" by Hael. you just went off on some tangent on racism.
the thing that bothers me (and almost everyone else) is what value you attach to that number. if u ask any 5k+ player, s/he will say anyone below 5k is garbage. if you ask a 4.5k player, s/he will say anyone below 4.5k is garbage, etc. zenoth recently said in a post that he got matched with "shitty 5k players," which was obviously using his standards.
of course they forget the average is way below (i'm guessing somewhere around 3.3k should be "average" for ranked) whatever value they have. their own dota skill is somehow critical to their view of self-worth, which when you think about it is absurd. there's no golden standard of rule, everyone's opinion is just as legit as to what constitutes "garbage" vs "non-garbage," since the term itself is subjective.
one of the more ironic things i've come across is that the players who care least about their MMR on my friend's list all have 5-5.5k. most of them random in ranked, still win > 60% of their games, usually don't rage at shit teammates, don't bother telling people what to do, etc.
it's like acing an exam, and then telling everyone, "well it wasn't hard, i don't care i got a 99 out of 100."
my friend doesn't care about mmr and he has, like, 2050
iceiceice's name in enlgish is Koh Pei Xiang and I have no idea which Chinese characters they are. BurNing's is Xu Zhi Lei and I literally know which characters they are. In fact I think the two names are other other way around in surname since Xiang sounds like a surname more than Koh but I know for sure BurNing's surname is Xu.
basically I live in China my parents are like, chinese chinese chinese chinese and I speak nothing but chinese at home because they suck at english and if I don't get >2300 in SAT my mom's gonna get mad etc
Iceiceice's English name cannot be directly transcribed because the surname based on the hokkien/teochew pronunciation. Koh is Xu in mandarin. I'm Goh which is Wu.
@yiran
The SAT/ACT aren't that important at all even if you value a job that needs a college degree or researching in academia.
@Zenoth I see, the English transliteration system seems pretty different. My username is literally my Chinese name, lol. My brother used to use it as his Warcraft Dota username for some reason
@Vandal I need SAT/ACT to be good to get into Ivy League though
And that's all that matters. Everyone in this Chinese family are like OMG OMGOMG HARVARD YAYAYAYAYAYA
