ESL One - general thread in General Discussion
Tharuler

Just a thread for everyone who is going to (or planning to) attend ESL One!

I myself will be attending (together with Manveru, one of our developers), but haven't decided on a place to stay yet.

I looked at AirBnB which had some cheap rooms, anyone else have any good options? Perhaps a lot of people staying at the same hostel?

    Who else is going?! :)

    Mushu

Yo I am goin' aswell and I love idea of stayin' in the same hostel :) I am also comming with my friend so we are actually 2 of us :)

      Lawliepop

i wish i were going. i can't justify the time off work though. :(

those going where are you from? is it mostly germans?

You guys are lucky you have this kind of free time.

they have tons of free time, its not like they actually do shit

I assumed all dotabuff staff had real jobs and this was a side job for them. I can't imagine this would make over $50,000 a year which is below what db programmers/xml perl etc. get for a salary.

Unless this is just an easy way to skip a pee test and underachieve ;)

This is a full-time job for a few of us, part time for others. It takes substantially more effort and cost than you might imagine.

                        @ Jason

I can imagine. Its probably similar to database work and linking whatever Valve sends over to your tables then presenting them in a format that everyone can consume correctly over here.

So some banks will have their own gateway format, then all the fields that they have, you have to convert to your own gateway. I work on 13 different card types, that go out to 20 different gateways with 10 fuel vendors so everyones got to shake the hand right so batch/invoice details of transactions, (its closed loop network so each card has a set product code list it can use its not just like Oh spend $100 and thats your total) taxes, fees, then on top of all that reporting for the merchant and the card issuer.

I mean I use old crap like perl C+ and java so IDK what you guys use but I can relate it's not as easy as everyone thinks it is. (Granted I'm changing jobs so I'm acting like I'm working most of the time now.) But thats me being lazy.
