DC Captains Draft tournament in General Discussion

I was just wondering if you guys think that XMG captains draft tournament is even fun to watch or viable for competitive play. Though it makes for different types of plays, I feel it is odd that is limits the hero pool. It seems slightly counter productive to what competitive play is. Idk Thoughts?

It's a nice change and fun to watch non popular picks but nahhhh

I also feel, every time I watch it, that the teams play more laid back and aren't up to playing as seriously as they would for Captains mode tournaments.

What are you talking about? Don't you have enough CM tournaments available?

I like this tournament because most of times we see heroes that are quite rare in CM tournaments, like omni / sniper / wd / wk / mid shaker etc.

Wk was actually just picked in Vp versus Relax. I see sniper picked all the time from rattlesnake. I saw Wd get picked back to back from power rangers and fnatic and sigma. I really think it depends on the teams. Hell, I think I remember even seeing a wraith king and omniknight support pick from Navi in a captains mode draft before with Pudge mid and a standin playing their carry.

However if you really want to get technical. Those picks are never really chosen cause of their versatility and utility. Im all for it and its fine and fun to see that, but I think it slightly skews the competitive scene. I think i would rather see reverse captains mode tournaments than captains draft.

If you don't like it, don't buy the ticket! There's plenty of CM dota happening at this moment.

not saying I don't like it. I'm just questioning its viability as a competitive thing. Funny it would be Dotacinema to casualize something. They always do.

Its fun... honestly a much needed break from the usual CM. In fact, they should expand the "competitive" scene to include the various modes, reverse CM (which has been done before), Ability draft, wtf mode, you name it... expand the scene to allow your fanbase to be more participative.

On a side note, Capt's draft actually allows competitive teams to test run new strats/heroes, so thats a huge plus.

While I don't think captains draft will ever replace the captains mode that's the norm, I still feel as though it's a viable tournament setup. I think limiting the hero pool actually helps you determine which teams are capable of playing better in terms of skill, rather than relying on getting the "perfectly synergising draft" which is easily obtainable in captains mode. It's still a perfectly valid test of skill, and means it's a nice change from the current meta

What if they just made Captains mode where you can ban more heroes? I mean in a way captains draft is almost like Captains mode at the TI1 when the game hardly had any ported heroes.

personally i think that would take way too long to set up, most CM drafting takes 5-10 minutes anyway. increasing the amount of bans could push that close to 15 minutes, and tbh that seems too long

Well if you had 3 bans first off the bat without picking anything that would go fast, cause people would just bad things they dont want to see at all. Only the later bans are a problem when they are banning something that they might pick.

I think it is really fun to watch, because of the heros that get picked. BUt i don't think that it really shows off what a team ahs to offer other than in the drafting stage. For TI4 I would be appaled to see CD in it, it seems just a little bit unbalaced for the teams that just arn't on fnatic/allaince/na'vi level of play
