Never. Lycan can push fine without it, I find building dps items and occasionally killing people is more effective than pure rat doto. But, depends on your bracket.

Necrobook is core on Lycan in every situtaion. No matter if you are ratting or fighting. He gives like 80%+ bonus damage to those creeps with auras + 522 MS, and that is frustrating not only for towers, but heroes too.
And with necro 3 vlads and AC lycan can backdoor any tower within 10 seconds.

Oh that's true, they do own in team fights, so always I guess lol. Changed my mind.

Every game. Your necro units are super buffed by his auras + they also move at max movement speed in your ulti form. Necro is the best item u can get on him. Do it in every game.

To be clear, maybe people asking why necrobook is core in lycan? is it jush push ? and etc.

Fact one : he have 30 bonus attack speed and 30% bonus damage on a unit under his controls
Fact two : he have howl, which means 20 bonus damage on all units under his controls (also for your alies unit controls : invoker forge spirit, furion treant, etc.)
fact three : If you build medallion on him, minus 6 armor and attacking by his wolfs + micon 3 at the same time will make you can 1v1 on every enemy hero.
fact four : When you turn into wolf(Shapesift) your hero get bonus movement speed 522, And Also your wolf and your micon 3. FREE BONUS MOVEMENT SPEED 522 FOR 18 SECOND.

And i think its enough.

ps : micon 3 movement speed is 425 if i remember correctly.

I was thinking of only for pushing. I don't think Lycan needs a necro book for pushing as he already annihilates towers regardless. But when you factor in how strong the minions are in team fights, yes, should probably do it every time.

the only times you shouldn't build necro on lycan is if you are incapable of microing the minions, or if you only intend to team fight and not push.

If either of those are the case however, you shouldn't be playing lycan anyway.

although I build necrobook everytime I play lycan. I more and more feel necrobook overrated and there should be better way for pushing lycan.
Deso is my favorite item now.
Just for pushing purpose. Desolator dps >= Necro3 dps. ya necro3 provides other benefits like true sight and mana pool. but deso can be on with no cooldown.and good againt heroes. and cheap, and no 400 gold bounty for enemy.
