This is the kind of initiative that could really, really take off. It seems to be what DotA2 has been missing, the 'etf2l' of DotA2. Awesome.
Tobiwan said during the Rox.KIS vs Sigma game that they are up to 720 teams so far. It looks like its off to a solid start.
On the other side, people are going to brag about being divX just like etf2l :3

A new Joindota league was just announced.

They claim that unlike all previous attempts by everyone to do this they will make it stick around longterm. I hope they can.
"The joinDOTA League is sponsor independent. Therefore it is guaranteed to run for a very long time with very short breaks in between two seasons. It won't suddenly stop in the foreseeable future. There'll be four seasons a year, each of them lasting about twelve weeks (including playoffs/relegation). That means the league runs throughout almost the whole year with minimal pauses."
