Actually, I think the map editor would take lesser time than even producing 1 hero from scratch. It probably exists in some form already, as we've seen coding/terrain of training missions. If anything, I'm worried volvo doesn't dedicate manpower to it due to underestimating its ability to earn them money :(
Awesome, just wish they would import all the heros already. I vaguely remember them posting that all heros will be finished by the time the game is released, I could be wrong though.
I thought the wc3 world editor was pretty amazing. We saw some freaking insane maps you wouldn't think possible like Soldiers or that sliding ice troll wars thingy.
That would be... gay.
Then again, if it was reaally cheap, then I'd pay for some high quality custom games.

That would be perfect. Reminds me of the old custom maps we played back in the day when WC3 FT was the hot shit. Island Defense, Island Troll Tribes, Metastasis, Tower Wars, Uther's Party... and that one wacky map where you had one barracks and it spawned footsoldiers. Crazy fun.
Also, HOW THE FUCK DID NOBODY MENTION PUDGE WARS YET?
blizzard is famous of their map editor skill that's why warcraft/starcraft still stands until now,

@Shinji. Well, it's still possible to play a Pseudo-Pudge Wars by going into a lobby and making a 5v5 Pudge only mid...granted, it's a very shoddy replacement, but you have to work with what you get.
I'm personally waiting for a Dota 2 L.O.D map. I loved the completely over the top stupidity of that game.

How are they richer than valve exactly? 60% of all game transactions go through valve. That makes lots of money by itself. Not to mention the hats they sell or the community market

I myself do not play dota only.
I play lots of other games and mostly i buy them from steam and dont bother with hard copies.
I bought skyrim and all its dlcs with steam and some CODs when i was 12yo but i really dont enjoy anything that comes from blizzard. For MMOs i prefer guild wars over WoW because WoW is too old and when TSO gets released i probably buy it with steam.
I also make made some path of exile transactions when i played it with steam.
Not to mention the shitloads of money valve gets by just advertising games.
Blizzard games are all BS like starcraft is just about who can make more basic units faster thats utter bullshit and as i said before WoW is just consists of some old fanboys that make it popular and will die out soon enough.
And for FPS i think valve has shitloads of revenue with half life and CS and l4d.
But i prefer battlefield :p
The only probable reason for volvo being behind is because of gaben eats money when they dont sell fast food at night.
2015 at best in the end it took them over 2 years to add different match maker with invisible visible number and call it ranked [ lo l ]

Half Life & Counterstrike was originally developed from sierra corporation which also part of activision company who are the
sister company of blizzard, now half life is one of the core of valve's game
blizzard and their family devour small company for their own good, power of money i guess
WoW had such success that even people throwing money at dota cosmetic can't even match it

It has been confirmed through interviews, responses to forum posts and etc. (look it up yourself)
From just the terrain and coding of training missions, we knew that it was possible. Custom maps will probably have to go through the workshop, to avoid nonsense like porn maps and such since volvo will want to protect its reputation. Successful map makers will probably receive a check too when volvo wants to buy it.
Anyway,
BIG GAMES WILL BE BACK. Tree Tag, Life of a Peasant, Moo Moo, Hero Siege and etc. I loved playing minigames/custom maps back in the day, they just added to much variety to wc3. Like literally, anytime you were bored from dota, you just hosted or joined a custom game and enjoy. So many genres and possibilities. And we get that on the dota 2 engine with far superior graphics. If volvo isn't too strict about it, we can might even see anime maps or Jurassic Park.
Release time is still unknown but with all the pressure volvo is getting regarding their hat updates, it shouldn't be too long.
