optimal fps for playing dota 2 in General Discussion
Rubokane

how many fps is needed to run dota 2 decently?
I run it in like 65-70 fps with all low and vsync off (yes I have shit pc) but I still think is not enough, sometimes it goes to 90 but it never goes under 65
I see some players playing with 55-60, what's optimal?
I know the more the better ofc :D

    Vroksnak

i got constant 40, it runs smooth for me x))))))
sometimes even 20-30 and i doesnt even notice it :XX)X)))))

wow nice trolls I would read again 1/10

          sano

why would you want to run over 60 if it makes no difference
turn vsync on and enjoy your smooth 60 fps

mine is at 120 but i have shitty ping so i guess it compensates for everything :D:D:DD

60 because most monitors only handle up to 60 (properly - meaning they can go over 60, but there's really no point in doing so because it is over your monitor's capacity). If you have a monitor that is configured for 120, then go ahead

Try and cap your fps using the command above my post

Actually the human eye can only see 20 frames per second. Anything above that is a placebo effect.

if I turn on my vsync I'll have like 45-50 fps in a 5v5 teamfight and it's not what I want, I mean I see a slightly better advantage since I turn vsync off and I have like 65-70 in a 5v5 teamfight
                          I don't know...

I don't rly care about your fps, I was just asking how much fps is needed to play a decent game of dota 2

Well how about in order too play a decent game of dota, don't make smurf accounts.

cap your fps @ 60 if you have a pentium 4, which you do, so cap your fps @ 60.

It's better to max out everything and get 50 than play on lowest with 80-90.
Everything above 40 is smooth, 55-60 optimal.

I played with 45-50 before and now I have 65-70 and I can fucking tell ya that it's a big difference
40 is not smooth at all

mine varies from 40 to 60 (notebook)
but recently, I've been playing on different computer with constant 120 and I didn't notice any big difference

Having a higher FPS than the monitor's refresh rate (59/60 Hertz for most LCDs) will result in screen flickering when you scroll around the map. That's what V-Sync ist for - it caps your frames so that the graphical processing and monitor refreshing are in line with each other, resulting in a clear vision.
This doesn't help with frames under your Monitor's refresh rate, of course... if you feel they are too low, reduce some graphical settings.
30 frames per second are regarded as smooth by most people, but there definitely is an enhancement with 60 frames, even for the human eye ;-)

The human eye is a biological masterpiece of engineering and can see up to as much as 150 frames or higher but that number is unknown and it can't even be gauged as a number because of the way the eye and electronics work.

Most "MOBA" games can be a pleasant experience played at 30-40FPS with optimal being at around 50-60. What you have to consider is dip in frames during team fight and you have to be sure that you will only go to about 40 on a dip.

EX. I have a 680 that used to drop to about 30 FPS due to bad game mechanics and drivers but has since been fixed so I play at a comfortable 70-90 FPS which makes the game more than playable, even in dips I will never notice.
