wait till the game is released, you have no idea what Valve's intentions are. maybe they were already planning some sort of MMR system. But you know what? At the end of the day it doesn't even fucking matter, you already have a rating, just one that isn't visible. If you need a rating to reassure you that you are:
a) good at the game, then you are probably bad
b) bad at the game, then you are probably bad
No one is claiming a "need" for DBR, it's simply something some people would "want" to have to compare stats with one another better than what Dotabuff.com already had.
Well I really don't think Valve intends to implement an MMR system. People may want it, but ultimately it will deteriorate the Dota 2 community.
They have an MMR system, it's just not public for certain reasons; maybe those that you mentioned, maybe not.

Valve could have released their own "ranking" like all the other dota-type games but they decided not to for a reason. I'm sure the release of the DBR has somewhat ticked off the people at Valve. And you can already see people complaining about things like "losing DBR for winning a game". One of the main reasons I enjoy wc3 Dota and Dota 2 so much is because there is no ranking system and that people aren't so critical about getting points.
And just to be clear, I'm definitely not saying this as someone who is ashamed of their stats. I just think that the DBR will turn our community into one like Hon's.
