This game just frustrates me. I honestly do think the MM system is rigged or broken and I am not trolling. I have a hard time trusting anyone because of things that have happened in my past. I honestly don't want people to think I am just some kid who is mad about a video game. I have looked at my games from a 3rd person perspective and can't find answers to why a 7k mmr player deserves their MMR. I just can't find a concrete reason why some players are considered lower MMR than others.

As I mentioned before, I used to play alot of starcraft. When I watched starcraft games I was able to comprehend the game itself, but I would fail to execute the strategies as well as other people. It was easy for me to make this comparison. In dota 2, its a simpler game and easier to understand. There are little differences in 7k to 4k games like game knowledge, but these things are executed as a team. I cannot find a reason other than MMR why people make these team decisions.

I feel like, if you have a higher MMR your teammates are more likely to work as a team simply because that number exists. Kindof like a placebo effect. And I feel like certain players get more cooperation from teammates based on their MMR or name. I know that alot of 4-5k players know how to play the game, they just refuse to work as a team because of a social condition that exists inside that bracket. Even in 3k games, alot of players know what they are suppose to do but nobody takes a support because they feel like they are better than eachother. Which alot of the time is true but playing like that holds them back in the long run.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My theory on matchmaking being rigged is definately something that could be implimented with the common player not being able to recognize it. It involves letting a less skilled player win enough games to get an mmr high enough to be placed into a higher mmr game. This would help to boost the winrate to above 50% which is what you need to climb mmr. At higher level games, it only takes one planted player on the enemy team to give that edge to the player of their choice to climb MMR. They could also have a system used to detect account buying players and use these accounts as well. The reason I believe this is a possibility is because I have seen so many 6k+ players that simply just don't have what it takes to actually be playing at that mmr.

The reasoning for this is for one simple reason, to create a fanbase for certain players. The reason valve would do this is because having fans of certain players is how they create a social trend that people want to follow. Just like how sports have players who are MVP's and sell shoes and jerseys, it brings more people into the sport because they dream of having a jersey themselves one day, or at least like to pretend.

The reason I feel like they would have to create an algorithm to do this is because unlike basketball or football, DOTA 2 requires less natural abillity to be able to play at a really high level. Obviously there is such thing as a skill barrier, but its much smaller in a game like this. There is only so much you can learn about dota. And if they didn't constantly change the game it would become a much more repetitive game and the "meta" would be more constant. Fans would get bored and die off, and the revenue for valve would die off.

I have watched quite a few public games with known players in the game and its honestly hard to distinguish well known players from any other good dota player. And also, I have noticed that people in higher brackets don't really play better individually, as far as last hits or itemization goes. They are just less inclined to go out and feed 1v5 or something like that. Another thnig I have observed is that in alot of games with well known players, I have been able to spot players on the enemy team that seem out of place. It seems more common that they are on the enemy team of said player like RTZ or Mind Control than on their team. This is just my own personal experience watching pub games. This is just a theory, but to me it makes alot of sense.

I have noticed in other games like starcraft, the top players change more often and nobody just stays at the top of the MM system forever or nearly as long as in Dota, this could be due to this theory or simply because of the matchmaking system problem that I will talk about next.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The problem(s) with the current matchmaking system is that there is a constant MMR which is used as the primary number that finds matches for you. This number doesn't reset ever and one player will have the same MMR for years if they stop playing the game. The problem with this is that it makes it so certain players are able to stay on the very top, even if they have the same game understanding as another player as long as they are playing more games. So look at it like this, if you are above 6k MMR and you play 5 games a day at 55% win ratio while another player plays 10 games at a 55% win ratio you will not climb MMR as fast as them and will never be considered as good as them.

If you think about it, this causes another problem as well. Say you are a 5k player who quit 2 years ago at 5k mmr and came back. You are now coming into a game that is completely different and are basically a detriment to whoever you Que with. So how does the matchmaking system deal with these players? I am certain that if the game is rigged as I said above that these players are used as plants into these kind of games. I am sure that the game knows when someone bought an account as well.

The other problem with the MM system is the acceptance of smurfs. You can literraly make a new account in ten seconds and don't even need a valid email. This inflates the MMR of players at the top end of matchmaking because it makes it harder for lower bracket players to get decent dedicated players on their team. There is no real reason why valve would allow this. Valve could impliment a system much better than what is currently there yet have no intentions of doing it. They would rather use hidden algorithms that nobody fully understands and deal with it in a shady way. In my opinion this is highly suspicious. What they could do rather, is make it so you need a valid phone number linked to your account that you use a text message verification to play ranked matches. They could also make it so you need a valid CC number or something and make a $0.00 purchase to verify identity. I know this sounds kindof overkill for a game, but it would be better this way.

The way all fair ladder systems have worked in other games that I have played is much simple than what is in dota 2. There is nothing hidden about the system. There is no special pool for ragers and trolls(this is what a mute button is for), there is no smurf pool or hidden pools or any unknown match finding algorithms. They reset the ladder after each season. They base your matchmaking off of win/loss rather than in game stats for calibration. The reason they need to reset the MMRs frequently is do discourage smurfing and account sellers. Having a constant MMR for an account creates negative social conditions within the gaming community. Think about it, who would bother creating and calibrating a smurf if they knew they would have a new MMR in a month. Nobody could make 10 different 5k accounts and sit on them to sell later, because that rating would become nothing next season. It would make selling accounts not worth any money.

They need to take additude out of the MMR system and keep matchmaking stats based. They need to take away the muting system because there is an ingame mute button. Also, if their attitude negatively affects their games it will be reflected in their stats. The LP system/report system for this is fine, because if you get LP you play in unranked. But muting someone is a different thing. And placing people in games based on their attitude shouldnt exist because in reality, if they win games they win games whether they are angry people or not. If they are a good player they are a good player, asshole or not. Kind of like how chef Ramsay is considered a master chef but is an asshole.

The other problem with the MM system is that they use stats from your unranked games for the starting MMR you get rather than just starting every player at a set number like 3000 MMR. As I said before, a fair ladder system works just fine with this type of system. As I mentioned in another thread, I used to play starcraft ladders when I was younger and I never had a problem with getting angry at anyone in starcraft. I never got angry at the system. I only wanted to improve my personal gameplay. The dota matchmaking system creates a negative mental condition within me that I feel like I am being held back by my teammates, I feel like the system is flawed and it makes me angry. After playing this game I feel like valves goal with most players is to make them desire something that is unattainable so they keep playing. I feel like their systems are designed to make people mad and then punish them for getting mad rather than encourage success for all players and then see who comes out on top.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyways, the theory goes way deeper but I could write a novel on it. They are theories to me, but to me it makes more sense that they are true than not. I watch pros make such terrible plays and die to the same kind of ganks and things that make my games difficult. The only real difference is there is more team cooperation in their games. And I feel like this is created intentionally by the game developers for reasons I described above. There is no reason to have this ladder system otherwise.

And when I say things that have happened in my past, No I was not molested sexually in any way, please don't joke about that LOL I know I leave myself wide open for that. I am talking mostly about financial things, and my experience in online poker.
      http://www.pokernews.com/news/2013/05/audio-tapes-expose-ultimate-bet-cheating-scandal-14986.htm
      http://www.cardplayer.com/poker-news/15386-final-former-owner-of-full-tilt-poker-pleads-guilty

I used to play on these sites from time to time. There was alot of scandals uncovered after I quit playing online poker. I was a decent player in real casino games but never really made enough money for the time to be worth it so I went to online poker for the lower rake/faster tournaments/no travel time to casino. I suffered unrealistic bad beats constantly and was convinced eventually, that the game was rigged.

Of all the tournaments I won, the ones that payed real money were won because the game wanted me to win. Also, if you started a new account you seem to always have a small amount of luck at the start and the game seems more appealing because you are making money. Upon losing a decent amount of money the game would eventually let you win some of the money back. I didn't play with a "bankroll management" strategy vs how much i deposited because I never had intentions of depositing my disposable income into this site. I only deposited when i felt like playing. I feel the game had a system to detect players who win from bad players based on their avg tournament buyin vs bankroll. But they did not understand that my bankroll wasnt inside the website and I had no intention of putting all of it on at one time. So... I would say after losing 1000 dollars over the course of like 5 months, it would let me win 500 back. So, the way I play is if I win some money back from the site I will play a larget tournament at hopes of winning a big chunk of change, like a 100$ tournament. And if I lose that (i always lost larger stakes games because of shit cars) I would just play more smaller tournaments. I started noticing a pattern when i win games.

I noticed, if I sucked out on someone early in a big tournament I was more likely to suck out again and again and get lucky more in that same tournament. I remember telling myself often (I know I am going to win this tournament) half way through and I would infact win every one of those tournaments. The thing is, the first prize would usually be about 1/2-3/4 of what I had previously lost in the last few months. This happened several times and obviously I never came out in the positive. This could be interpreted as normal or explainable to most people but this is how I proved to myself that the game was rigged.

I played for several years total, same patters were consistent. I told myself "the next time the game lets me run deep into a tournament I will switch up my game to micro stakes". I went to .50c and 1$ buyins after that. I played over 1000 rush poker 1$ tournaments with roughly 50-100 people each tournament and wanted to see how much I would win back playing only favorable hands. I literally got bubbled out of tournemnts at least 400 of these tournaments with big chipstacks. I hardly ever lost my first all in pot, let alone within my first 5 - 10 all in pots. I only won like 10$ back from all of those tournaments. This makes absolutely no sense. While its possible the odds are extremely extremely low of this happening. Keep in mind, most of these players in these tournys are going all in every hand because they are usually people who are down to their last few dollars. There is no real strategy to these and its almost impossible to play at a huge disadvantage. I was still playing to my best knowledge playing only favorable hands, and ironically I was running deep into these tournaments yet getting sucked out on ridiculous pots late in the tournament like QQ vs 53. Or floppng a set and getting called by someone with absolutely nothing and getting runner runner'd to a strait or flush or some bullshit.

So, all in all I was constantly losing with the best hand and when I was winning I had bad cards and it didn't matter what strategy I used to play because the game wanted me to win when it was time to win and wanted me to lose when it was time to lose.

If you look at the links, you will see that the owners were basically exposed for taking the majority of the player funds which were on the site. My theory is that, they took most of the money leaving more than enough to pay people out who were their "winning players" while using their system to rig the game against the common player that they are sure most likely will not just take their money out without winning. They know they can effectively take the majority of player funds as long as they only let a certain % of the players be winning players because they know they will never have to pay out the majority of the players money because its basically dead money to them.

But you have to understand that my theory is that they make the matchmaking system to perpetuate these social conditions because it makes the players at the top feel more deserving. I feel like you can demoralize anyone if you keep them held down enough in life or in this case in a game. I know its a game, but its also a game where people get millions of dollars if they are considered the best. I know that you shouldn't get mad over a game, and if nobody was making money this game would make me alot less angry. The fact that I feel like I could be competing against these players and be able to win, but have no means to prove it is what makes me angry. In fact, I have tried positive mental attitude and it doesn't change my teams abillity to play the game. I feel like every player needs to start at the very bottom every season in order for it to be fair. I honestly doubt you would see the same players in the next TI if they implimented my style of MM today.

            A different perspective. Nice read.

            sunshine

I read most of your post and I respect your point of view, however I find some of your statements flawed and also the points you are making are Backed by the fact that you get shit teammates and lose. Can't help but think it's biased.

Anyways people make mm too complicated, it's very simple. You win? Here is 25 points. You lose? I take away 25 points. Whatever happens in-between the time you chose your hero and an ancient gets destroyed is what determines the outcome. Simple yes?

I play 100 games I have 55% Winrate, you play 10 games with 55%. That actually means a lot, YOU with lesser games and YOUR future games up to the hundredth game are undetermined therefore your 55% is worth jackshit compared to my hundred games, so you can't make a comparison. HOWEVER, what you can do is implement a system ( mmr) to compare them no? Now ME with hundred games won 55 games so let's say my mmr is at 3k,YOU with ten games somehow gets 3k as well. We give YOU 90 more games, are you still at 3k or have you exceeded 3k? If you dropped your rating aren't you playing worse than me with 100 games already? If it remains the same YOU have no change in skill. The point I'm making is the more you play the better it is to determine your level of skill, this goes with almost anything, if YOU exceeded 3k rating you are performing better than me. Now I'm typing all this on my phone and I will edit it once I get home.

              tmo-captainshags

^ This doesn't explain the inconsistencies that I have noticed with alot of 6k+ players. I literalyl watched a 6k player try to solo offlane juggernaut today. I watched him try to solo ward enemy camp so they couldnt pull, got killed before game started. I watched him go back and try to lane in the same lane while solo after failing to ward the camp(as if warding that camp would even make a difference) and feed two more times. He even tried to kill a level 5 sven while being level 3 with his spin. The sven just auto attacked him while he was spinning and didnt even have to use mana to stun him. It was either an account buyer or a plant.

                tmo-captainshags

I watched admiral bulldogs stream a few times now, I am not sure if he has some type of mental illness but it sounds like when he talks. (Nothing wrong with that) but his playstyle reflects it. He played offlane pudge with abbadon, fed 3 kills. Went mid to gank and the only useful thing he did was towerdive the tinker and kill him (barely) and was able to suicide rather than die to the tower. He almost just fed the gold right back. He went like 0-10 and had basically no impact in the game. It honestly looked like a 2k game. I can't figure out a logical reason for this. Every 6k + game I see people are always doing strange things that make no sense to me. I understand that people make mistakes but its honestly almost impossible to differentiate between 4k players.

                  WizardRubic

Hey, I may be able to offer a different perspective. I've climbed from 1.4k to 4k through supporting. The strategy that seems to work is you move around the map with your camera and see where you can get kills and where your team mates are likely to die. Then you go there or you get ready to tp if your team mate is dying.

An example of a recent pub stomper who'd do things like this was Badman. Even though he was spectre he'd tell his team mates, hey my ult is ready and if they seemed to respond he'd haunt in and start wrecking. He'd run around in obscure paths and use dagger from the trees and just appear and outnumber his enemies since he followed his team. Sometimes you'd see him frantically pinging while he flies in from the trees. When you're going to kill and your team mate sees it, peer pressure usually does its thing and they follow you

If no one else is willing to help you outnumber the enemy, you probably have to help them outnumber the enemy. Identifying when you actually overpower the enemy is where the 7k's excel at.

I wouldn't look at fringe examples where a 7k feeds and win as an example of the mean.

Similarly I wouldn't treat your losses at online poker as proof of the game being rigged. I've grinded my bankroll from zero fairly successfully. I had no deal with the online poker site.

Let me just say that you truly have my utmost respect and I admit there is a method to your madness. I hope you achieve something for all the effort you put into sharing your ideas. It is true that the way you comment/chat makes me picture an angry kid asking his older brother for "big" words, and I am sorry for all the times I threw shades at you.

I can't even believe I am writing this shit. WTF am I even talking about.

                      Mushi

People are just shit in any given MMR range. The only variable subjected to your control is you.

Speaking about higher MMR and their abilities, yes the game knowledge will have a cap somewhere where you would expect player of xxxx MMR know just as much about Dota as a yyyy MMR player does. What really differs them apart (in my opinion, but somewhat supported by other sources as well) is their reaction time. Sure there are a lot of things that matter in Dota, but if you can't react fast, too bad you can't keep up with the pace of the fights, pushes, farms and team coordination.

About your online poker thing, unless there really was cheating ongoing meant to make certain individuals proceed or win the tournament, please do differentiate probability and instances of probability. You can call all-in pre-flop (even multiple times as you like) with your pocket aces in hand knowing you have the highest chance to win, but can you lose it? Yes. Higher chances of something to happen doesn't mean that the actual outcomes (instances) should obey the said chances. Variance is in play. Some call variance "just another fancy name for luck", but go figure.

                        PLQ

There was a guy on this forum who was somewhere around 5,5k and he made two smurfs accounts and calibrated both above 4k. "Famous" players' smurfing get 5k in like no time. Or someone in 4,5k on this forum who lost 1,5k mmr while playing drunk and grinded his way back in two weeks. I played with some ppl who have main acc in mid 4k and the difference in skill was huge. And I spectated game where Sonneikko literally threw game just after he stomped one. (just some random facts)

You just have your selective memory set up for "Proofs" that would make your hypothesis right while ignoring everything else. I think that when you see one mistake in some1 else's gameplay you just tune to only see mistakes and nothing else. You need to understand that matchmaking in its current form is long term run - you can't just make new account, play few games and be placed in 6k avg games... Do you realise how many people would abuse this system and sell those accounts?

I would suggest you to stick to ONE account, play to unlock ranked and calibrate. IF you are as good as you claim to be, you will calibrate at 3,5k+ and you can grind your way up. You have an example of how long it takes to climb.

Let's say, you will calibrate at 3k exactly and your real mmr is 6k. Assuming only +25/-25.
Between 3k and 4k, your winrate would be at least around 70%... this means that it would take you around 100 games to increase your mmr to 4k.
Between 4k and 5k, your winrate would be for example 60%... this means that it would take you around 200 matches to reach 5k.
Between 5k and 6k, your winrate is let's say 52%... this means that it would take you 1000 (one thousand) to reach 6k.
So as you can see, it would take 1300 games on one account, in solo ranked matchmaking, to double the MMR from 3k to 6k.

So man up, go ahead and TRY it instead of whining on forums about rigged world. If you truly are 6k player, you will get there eventually. But as I've shown above, it's nothing that you will accomplish in two afternoons.

in sub 6k-7k people actuallyjust do not know what their heroes do. if you dont know what u want to do, its hard to get other people to work with you.

in my last game for example bulba was the main shot caller but everyone was communicating and we all knew what heroes to play around and how we wanted to take fights. as a result we pretty much won every fight despite having a pretty meh first 15 minutes of the game and so on, nobody flamed or anything, people just played their heroes how theyre supposed to be played. we made mistakes sure but we knew what they were and no1 took anything personally.

anyhow, in sub 7k dota people are actually just garbage. u might not realize this but theres a reason why the average game length for my team in open qualifiers on the first day both times was 15 minutes - and this was with people refusing to gg out after being 2 raxes down because they were trying to spite us because they hated us based on reddit. like we tried to fuck with faceit and have a 100 minute game in game 1 but i literally solo killed the entire other team as a kotl and ended up with battlefury sny and some other shit. its insane how much of a skillgap there is between low mmr and high mmr. open qualifiers is a good example of this i think.

in my last game for example bulba was the main shot caller but everyone was communicating and we all knew what heroes to play around and how we wanted to take fights. as a result we pretty much won every fight despite having a pretty meh first 15 minutes of the game and so on, nobody flamed or anything, people just played their heroes how theyre supposed to be played. we made mistakes sure but we knew what they were and no1 took anything personally.
anyhow, in sub 7k dota people are actually just garbage. u might not realize this but theres a reason why the average game length for my team in open qualifiers on the first day both times was 15 minutes - and this was with people refusing to gg out after being 2 raxes down because they were trying to spite us because they hated us based on reddit. like we tried to fuck with faceit and have a 100 minute game in game 1 but i literally solo killed the entire other team as a kotl and ended up with battlefury sny and some other shit. its insane how much of a skillgap there is between low mmr and high mmr. open qualifiers is a good example of this i think."

Honestly, maybe I just need to accept that everyone is fucking trash and mute my whole team every game. I sometimes pick heroes based on draft, then my team proceeds to go to the complete wrong lanes or fuck up micro. Its just annoying, sometimes I can't tell if someone is a good player from their stats so I trust them, and they fuck up miserably. Its just frustrating esp in unranked games because they actually count for like 500 mmr each.

"alright so basically you want to reach your perceived skill level without actually putting in any of the work
the solution is to go buy a 6k account and then get a reality check by losing 90% of your next 100 games"

Rofl if admiral bulldog can get 7k im pretty sure I would win at least 60%

There are little differences in 7k to 4k games like game knowledge, but these things are executed as a team. I cannot find a reason other than MMR why people make these team decisions.

I get these fucking zoloft/adderol kids in my game that know they suck balls so they intentionally ruin their teammates games. I won the game, but I only had a 4-2-5 KD at the end and it made me look like a scrub. Now next game I will get another shit team because of it.

If I play mid and come to gank/push a lane my team just runs back to the tower and makes me waste my time.

I get players, who when we are winning fuking ward defensively and act like we need to "DEFEND" constantly because they are so trash they don't understand when we are actually winning. Its just so frustrating. My team always does the opposite of what we need to actually be doing.

On top of that, I was 3-0 at one point, but the trash PA got a double crit on me and killed me in a split second when I was trying to harass him. I just dont understand this game, its like it makes everything as hard as possible for me. Every time I get a rune its a rune I don't need. people literally get away from me with 1 hit like at least 5 times a game.

                                                                  This comment was edited
