Whenever I solo support you have to gauge what is more important, yellow or blue wards.
it's like this,
If Enemy team has gankers/roamers, then you buy mostly yellow wards, and ward jungle entrances, gank locations, etc.
if Enemy has a lot of invis, then you buy blue wards and 1 yellow ward. But that's like 12 minutes down the line where the carry is probably jungling at this point and I get to catch up on farm.
Neither lich nor wl are greedy. They scale with items, as does every hero in the game; the point is that their effectiveness floor without farm and levels is higher than most. That's why they can afford to buy support items more than most others.
