your starting point will be your current mmr.
Afaik never play ranked once a patch gets released...w8 till people figure out the op stuff then play them in ranked
if i have to assume which patch will get the widest pool of playable heroes, then it's this one. so much stuff going on, lanes seem pretty even and multiple strategies seem to work. its not as clear as "fuck illus go mid" in this patch
If you gain 200 MMR in the coming weeks, then your calibration games will have 200 higher MMR on average, which means you have a better chance of calibrating higher.
The seasonal ranking doesn't really affect ranking that much, if you think about it.
I like the idea of playing unranked for the first few weeks just to get a feel for the new patch.
That being said, it'd also be a good time to play ranked because while people fuck around with new builds, the proven cookie-cutter strats would still work (AM bfury splitpushing, Pitlord team fight, etc).
