HEAVY HITTERS

Do you consider professional gaming a reliable career?

    Ayaneru ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      No.

For example, here in PH we have only about 10 professional dota players that are rich. And about 100,000+ dota players who arent earning at all.

If you want to earn cash by playing video games, try upload quality video of your playing time on youtube or stream it on twitch.

      Zemo-san

Why would anyone besides maybe the 100 best players in the world considered it a career.
If you are among the 100 best, go on, be a pro. Otherwise, go back to work/studying.

Every time someone thinks of "professional gaming" they see the check above the heads of the TI winners or some Major winner. They don't see the people who work hard and don't make it among the best teams in the world, which are the only ones making "real money" as in, can survive while playing dota.

Just listen to the stories of Matu about how he had to go away from home and hope to get the money together for the rent at the end of each month.
Personally, I would rather look at code for the rest of my life because it seems less stressful tbh.

That doesn't mean that you shouldn't consider becoming a pro but don't just follow the lights, see the silhouettes drawn from the light source.

It's a hit or miss and you go bankrupt/live under your parent's paychecks. Professional player requires a shitload of dedication into being the best of the best so you are actually paid with real money for your gaming efforts. You see so many individual getting success out of it but you don't know how many failed in between (Yaphets? Never again seen post Dota 1 except sporadic appearances in major games). I don't know about lower tier teams but I do have the presumption that it is hard to get by by playing Dota 2 only in lower tier teams.

          Zemo-san

By mentioning Yaphets I have to add sth:
I think that he did just quit the scene because he was older then the rest from that time and just didn't want the stress of going through everything of the dota 1 times again. I followed him a bit after the dota 1 scene dropped(last pro event) and he kept sharing some pictures with a handsome lady by his side.
Another thing could be that he didn't really make the jump in time from dota 1 to dota 2, he joined at TI 3 or even TI4.

Its more like he didn't even try to come into the scene so its not like he failed. It is more the type of story as LightOfHeaven who just dropped the proscene(who was the highest earner in dota2 history at that time).

Another story of actually not achieving their goals would be guys like Vigoss and YamateH, the later specially since he was on a TI if I recall right. I can be wrong tho, didn't have them ever in my news feed.

Pretty much like do you consider being an athlete a reliable career?

              HEAVY HITTERS

So what if I reached atleast the top 10 mmr leaderboard, do you think that's one aspect of getting to a pro team? I've heard there is a 5k pro from SG e-sports tho.

                HEAVY HITTERS

                  ^Yeah kinda seems like it.

                  mid or safe farm

He is 6k,Sg.Bardino,but there are 8k-9k players that are still not pro,so i dont know.

                    MILNOR

you either become a pro by being so good in pubs you cant be ignored like miracle or you form a team and get results. for example Fly Puppey PPD. Those 3 players made it happen, if they just quietly played pubs they would never have been noticed, they are not pros just cos they are good, they organized a team and went for it

                      Chiwa

                        LightOfHeaven was a pro player?

                        Rocket

Depends what you mean - if you mean exclusively playing to be on a major winning team then no. if you mean professional by being a streamer or making other content then hard work and talent can allow you to make a living.

making it as a professional player is as much luck as anything else (although obviously it also requires bucketloads of talent and hard work)

                          Zemo-san

Pubs are just pubs, mmr is just a number, it has nothing to do with the proscene but with the chance of a player to win a pub game.
You could argue that party games are a bit closer to the proscene but that depends how well you comunicate with your team and how seriously they are taking the game. A good way to see how good you are is actually playing battle cup, that is probably the closest you will get to the proscene, implying you are not bellow 4k and don't get a lucky group in the battle cup.
You can also organize random scrims against other teams and just play against each other, get some captain mode practice and see what you would like to play/counter in the meta.

Also, Milnor mentioned puppey/fly/ppd as if they wouldn't be noticed through pubs. Thats some bullshit right there. I can't speak for fly and ppd but puppey could kick your ass till like 6k with probably any hero in the game. He not doing it doesn't mean he is not capable of doing it. After the EE-sama incident with the destruction of monitors, EE talked about how puppey doesn't even play dota in his freetime anymore but sticks to event games like gem TD.
The majority of proscene player would destroy the average pubber in the main part of games played against each other, if they don't do it it is mainly that they don't have the time to do it, and not them being unable to do so.

That is also the reason why people like Badman weren't able to find a proteam, spectre spamming doesn't mean shit in the proscene. Your pool should be at least 5-10 heroes otherwise you are useless for almost any team out there.

                            Zemo-san

I am fairly sure someone will get the part with puppey wrong so I will explain through the example of miracle.
Miracle only played pubs to get to the top of the leaderboard to be noticed by the better pro teams easier. Same thing what players like w33 did at that time( I think he was the first player to get 6-8k or sth, I don't remember)
To understand how powerfull the proplayers are just take the example of Saksa after dropping the Pro scene. he got from 8k till almost 10k in no time.
