Cs 1.6 is still alive and well, at least not the tournaments. I don't know any cs 1.6 tournaments going on now
A lot of LoL players moved to overwatch i think, and in general when u have a more casual fanbase ur more likely to die out imo
Even if dota starts losing mass most people will play it unless queue times get obnoxious and/or they just completely buttfuck everything
the fanbase is kinda diehard but valve is killing off its low income players (in other countries) by increasing graphics requirements..
Assuming dota 2 will live for another 20 years, and icefrog dies, who will take over the updates? Gaben? D:
if icefrog does a good job maintaining the balance with additions of more heroes that are unique, dota 2 can last as long as their ability to maintain it. as long as the viewership is high and players supporting with the fund on tournaments, dota can only get bigger.
if esports is a thing and get major fund by the government in foreseeable future, they can only get better.
Nobody foreseen chi long quas demise. So nobody will see dota 2 dying for now. But it will happen. Time will tell. Sooner or later only time will tell
I give it until TI8 for the prize pool to keep ballooning, after which it will start to go down, which will signify beginning of the end, then I'd call it TI12 or 13, then Dota will be replaced in some way. I think the game will continue to be supported until TI14/15.
Though the addition of brand new hero concepts(not MK, he was a dota 1 concept who couldn't be implemented because of game engine limitations) may speed up the process in some way. Either that or people stop biting into the cosmetics hype.
What you consider dead?
cs 1.6 is slowly dying on steam though. From 60.000 players 5 years ago to around 16.000 today. But still, there is SHITTON (and by that mean, couple times larger number) players that play cs 1.6 without steam. And reminder, game is 18 years old.
However, for dota is different. What if something new and better is released in near future? Something that is not comprehendable or explainable?
What if Valves bussiness with micotransactions starts dying out to the point where is not even profitable to have like 100 people working on the game and they decide to ditch dota?
I doubt icefrog balancing the game has impact. Sure, it matters that game is balanced in terms of pure gameplay, but when comparing to long future, there are other aspects that are much more important.
So yeah. Dota could die in next 5-6 years or it could be played for next 15 years. Impossible to predict.
I don't think Dota2 has too many years left, but I also think this game may be what finally makes Valve stop with their aversion of the number 3...or maybe they'll just release "Dota: Random title"
Dota 3 probably. I'd play it over league of legends 2 and hon 2.
Damn lol2 fegs. Dota3>lol2
if game is to survive long term, the developer must bring forth new changes while keeping the essence of the cores. If there was no dota 2 reborn, no talents introduction on 7.00, and new heroes, dota would die very quickly as people would get bored. However, you can see Valve is rather creative and certainly has many things being planned for the development. The upcoming major patch would also revamp the talent system and many other things I believe.
Things will get more and more transhuman.
E-sports will be more and more popular, video games will get more and more immersive.
Dota will just repeat CS history.
CS 1.6 paved the way to short-lived Condition Zero.
Condition Zero paved the way to CSS.
CSS paved the way to CS: GO.
CS: GO will pave the way to an another CS incarnation well into the 2020's.
DotA died to spawn LoL, HoN, HotS, DOTA 2 and millions of dollars worth industry.
DOTA 2 will certainly die some day just to be reborn again, so in a sense it will never die, just reapper in a different form.
In a sense, if you think about it, DOTA 2 in 2017 and DOTA 2 in 2012 are two completely different games in a way.
The new strategy of game makers is to perpetually change their product, so that while it technically is the same game, other large time scales it changes completely. Perpetual changes and adaptations keep the game alive and technically could do so indefinetely, just that DOTA 3 and DOTA 2 will be as different, as the original Allstars and DOTA 2 @ 2017.
You guys saying 1.6 died, not at all ppl still play that and dont forget these who left 1.6 playing now cs:go,its like dota 1-2 very very similar, but Dota is a more than just headshots,i mean most likely only lol2 or so can move large amount of players, otherwise Dota 2 players move to Dota 3 one day.
Well No matter how long ppls will play dota. Im sure it dies for me with age of empires 4 Release.
2-3 years left on the life of Dota.
I'd be playing pub g but I don't have a good enough pc for it

When will dota die?
Will TI20-TI30 exist?
Will there actually be players in 20 or so years?
I'm asking the important questions here.
