Depends on lane partner I'd say... If you have a kunkka or another hero that requires a little bit of a setup it can be devastating with coordination, then again, 2k speaking here
I beg to differ (slightly).
Rubick does need a bit of farm to be relevant so why not pull the lane? Keep the safelane carry happy under tower and you can farm the side creeps?
@Earth Spirit: Completely agree - Kunkka support is phenomenal and you can easily transition into damage if required and aether lens plus 'x marks the spot' is just funny watch the enemies attempt to run..

he's no good roaming or dual-offlaning either, which makes safelaning (with stacked pulling) the best option for rubick.
The thing is rubick is very situational. You should pick him only when there are valuable spells to steal. Rubick against heroes like BB is kind of bad. Spells like chrono, ravage, chain frost make him super good.

It doesn't take much to zone an offlaner. He has range, has a nuke that reduces damage. If a distuptor or lich can zone out an offlaner, rubick can too (offlane player here).

Rubick is a shit laner in general. Weak spells early on, weak base damage and movespeed. Only good thing is his manapool, but the high cost of spells offsets that as well anyway. You can still do decent if you know how to play the hero though.
rubick's pretty dogshit as a lane support if he has to do it solo. in a game with 2 supports, no worries
imo these people pick rubick as a lone support is because they don't want to solo sup and they might as well pick a fun hero even though it guarantees a lost lane if the enemy's smart

Rubick isn't that bad in lane, he gives a lot of carries kill potential, u don't just pick rubick to pair with a morphling in lane, u pick it with a jugg or Ursa or other carries who have kill potential but lack disable. He is a weak laner in a static lane but by lvl 2 he enables aggression for ur carry.

silencer smashes teamfights if his allies picked any cc at all, lc has the opposite case where shes great for holding people in place but thats about it unless she snowballs
silencer is a great support, zones like none other with an orb that does 11 pure dmg at level 1, plus 50 average attack dmg. Then his nuke does 250 dmg at level 5. He's very good at zoning and has great team fight.
I am just saying, Rubick was first-pick material in 7.00. All they did was nerf his attack range and spell by 5 mana.

Please, dont pick rubick if u have to support safe lane because hero has a miserable lane presence due to low dmg, sustain and lack of cc
If u want to win your lane and secure farm for carry pick a strong LANE support, e.g. warlock, shadow shaman, lich.
