What do you think about music & Dota 2? Share your experiences in an anonymous survey in General Discussion

    Dear DOTABUFF community,

Hi there, I am Ivan Mouraviev, a fifth-year Bachelor of Music student (and proud 2k MMR player :p) at the University of Auckland, New Zealand.

I invite you to participate in an anonymous online survey about players’ experiences with music and Dota 2. This is part of my current project to understand the music and broader musical culture of Dota 2, and to reflect on research methods for studying video game music.

My thanks go to support staff member Sovann for giving me the go-ahead to share my research and this advertisement with you.

You are eligible to participate in the survey if you:
    • Have played Dota 2
    • Are over 16 years of age
    • Are able to provide informed consent
    • Are able to read and write English
    • Are available for approximately 20 minutes to complete the online survey (which will be open until the end of August)

A summary of my background and research aims and motivations, where the final results will also be made available by January 2018, can be found on my research website here: https://sites.google.com/aucklanduni.ac.nz/imou692-dota2/

An important component of my project is understanding how you, as Dota 2 players, experience music both in the game and in peripheral spaces such as Twitch, YouTube, or competitive events. I aim to address the question: how do Dota 2 players prefer listening (or not listening) to music while playing the game, and how might these preferences relate to broader trends in people’s habits of music listening today?

While direct benefits of your participation in the survey can't be guaranteed, you will contribute to a better understanding of Dota 2’s music, help enrich the broader field of game music studies, and potentially refine your own understanding of music and gameplay.

If you are eligible to participate as per the conditions above, visit the survey at the following URL to provide your informed consent and begin the survey: https://goo.gl/forms/pM18ODZyW4R7p5nb2 .

    Best,

    Ivan
