Try avoid playing in peak times in General Discussion
basement :)

I am on holidays, so I usually play during off-peak times. Today, I tried peak hours, and it was the worst experience ever. The peak time is around 6 pm to 9 pm. The variance is awful at this time because of people coming home tired from work, school, etc. Most of my games are either free wins or free loses. I am talking about 7k net worth difference by 15 minutes.

I thought if more ppl are playing means less variance ?

Off peak times u get neck beards, Virgins, handicap people, unemployed, kids with no proper parenting who skipped school. Sounds just as bad

i only play solo q on off peak times(1am-5am) . cuz its more chill , idk maybe its just me easily triggered during daytime

@Diox, the same people are typically playing on off peak times. There is less variance.

Meanwhile cutnpaste still struggles to find a game in 10 hours

dota in 2017, it is fine for cutnpaste to queue during peak times because the player pool at his mmr is so small, so the variance is little regardless.

I actually reviewed my past 25 games, and the nightmare queue time is from 5.30 pm to 9 pm. 100% (around 12) of the games I played during this time were very skewed. 70% of the games I played during this time were last minute comebacks where I won from a 10k+ gold disadvantage. In almost all the games, my teammates were utter trash.

It is largely related to fatigue. During peak times, people’s health can vary depending on what happened during the day. They could have had a bad day, an exam, already played many hours of Dota, etc. This affects their performance and hence, their skill level. Despite this, their mmr remains the same, which creates unbalanced games.

The ideal time is probably from 12 pm to 5 pm. In mourning times, it is early in the day, so people are less likely to have done something. This means it is more likely for most people to be well. For late nights. I rarely ever play after 10 pm, but I assume everyone is already tired by that point. Too early in the morning, and there might be people who stayed up all night.

I pretty much only play from 10pm-1am. My wife will feel very neglected if I play any earlier than that.

I play mostly at night but a bit in the afternoon
Doesn't seem to make a big difference

I mean, I reviewed my match history, and most games were either last minute comebacks or gg 15 minutes. That is all I will say then.
