Position doesn't matter if you dont know how to attack the ancient...

You get good by getting good.

to be a "good player" you need to be good in all roles. when you're playing pos 4 or 5 you need to know how you're mid and hc is thinking.

your mid is thinking damn enemy mid is low if only a support rotated we could have easy kill. or, if only someone placed a hill ward i could orb walk better. or, if only someone helped a bit with runes so enemy mid can't get them.

your offlaner is thinking damn if only someone took the enemy bounty runes so their supps stay low level.

and to be honest you haven't experienced dota if you don't go mid and be at the center of the map. position 2 is very, very important. don't ignore other roles just because you like pos 4 and 5. it'll help you improve.

Long story short, don't listen to your team mates, especially if they are 2k-3.5k lul
