a handful of high mmr people have independently "discovered" safelane riki. its apparently pretty good if ur teammates dont run down mid when you pick it
that's actually a frequent problem for me. i mean if its a 6k avg game ill just go roaming riki because i know those dumbasses tilt like hell. but if its 5.1k ill go safelane and hopefully no one leaves me solo vs a qop or start feeding

He probably meant it is discovered to still be viable/effective.
I've had the pleasure of running it once or twice in my 4.5 k mmr pleeb games, so take it with a grain of salt.
Riki scales super well with that early farm. He isn't going to AM and afk farm for 30-40 mins, you get your boots of choice, aquila, and diffusal and just start rekting people.
The issue I've had is that eventually they buy a gem and you will have some problems vs the more traditional carries. However you can sometimes snowball so hard and win. ALso the added bonus is that you can basically deny every creep with that bonus backstab damage
I would say its situational for sure.
Added bonus , the enemy supports will invest lots of additional monies into sentries for you, which will most likely not pay off for them.
riki is an atrocious laners, so protecting him safelane for the first few minutes and letting him get some farm before snowballing is viable imo. I still think he wud be more of a pos 2 safelaner.
he has blink, smoke cloud, and an amazing skill for last hit hitting and denying. Any hero with a stun can land him easy kills. But yeah true he's definitely a terrible laner.
I really liked safelane riki when I was a kid 4K player playing low 3k games due to seasonal mmr thing last year , basically I knew I would snow ball outa control .
1st item pms then a qb , can do very well out denying / last hitting a lot of one vs one situations with high levels into back stab .
riki is good midlane IMO. because mid give 1vs1 situation fast exp and gold, just buy bottle and dont die when supp trying to gank u
But traditional carries can actually defend theirself like jugger , wk .
Riki cannot do shit in lane
it's definitely not a bad hero to run safelane, but you'll have to convince your team to not deny their items
it's only good if you have any pushing offlane or mid?
PROS
Kinda like slark/pa in his playstyle definitely with more utility
good snowball hero for sure ( but the current meta doesnt punish much of greediness)
CONS
You rely on snowball too much you dont have any flashfarm abilities
trash pusher and no flash farm and lacks the triple treath that carries usually have namely, ( waveclear, siege, gank)
