I played rank to, same as you, find a more serious match. Then I calibrated at flat 2k and didn't touch it for 2 years xd xd xd
dunno there was no such thing as "mmr" when i started dota 2. Then i started playing ranked after mmr system introduced to see what it is.
I calibrated because I had this cool new thing that would rate how good I was and I couldnt wait until I got better to see what my ranking is so I ended up a 1k.
To get out from bad teammate,actually I success there,but I improve more in the process and now I can find mistake when if it's last time I will call it good play. xD
Play ranked because everyone in ranked should want to win. Makes wins more satisfying. Winning in unranked where ppl don't try hard is relaxing. But mayb not as satisfying
calibrated coz i started enjoying playing alone
calibrated 2.7k, randomed all the way to 3.1k then carried to 4.1k, anything that can hit creeps till 5k
Just for calibrate and know how hard its "ranked" actually I think pubs are more interesting for play and less toxic... The only point in unranked that I hate its be the solo player of a group of 4 noobs who just complain for everything without any knowledge of dota

For me it was to have a more serious match, were people would respect eachother because both would have the same skill level, but after some games i saw that the behaviour on ranked is far worse than on unranked so i mostly play unranked (90% of the time) untill this day, and sometimes i go back to ranked if i am on the mood.
