it doesnt rly give a lot to dotabuff itself, id say, but not much value is lost either, and it generates fun and motivation for the plebs, which is great
i actually got motivated to play rmm when after the race was over
i'd say that its a good thing for the forum

u saw/read the benao/bogi/salza thread about mmr race, most likely. skim appeared there at certain point and said that the winner gonna get a plus subscription for a month, which is generally a good idea, as far as i think.
i believe it might be fun if this kind of a competition becomes a tradition, hosted by mods. it can be organized quarterly or every month, and have certain rules u can think of urselves, which would limit the participance of 4.5k smurfs of 7k players, boosters, etc.; mb it might make sense to run it only for the old forum users.
the goal can be set to any mmr point, not necesarilly 5k, but i'd say it would be most fun for higher ratings, not lower than 4k; and with relatively few participants every time.
