But the reality is that just because something CAN WORK doesn't mean it's good or that its' a good idea to suggest a strategy like that. And hero winrates even reflect that a lot of the time. You can do safelane pugna, you know, and if you already have a dominant midlaner, and the enemy has OD, it might even work because you can somehow justify your pick and it's a very specific in that case. But saying "yo guys safelane pugna is legit" without a specific context is as stupid as saying what you did.
I've seen even safelane axe/centaur in competitive, because the real carry was trilaning in the offlane. Just because hero is given farm priority in the early levels because he needs to make an impact early in the game, doesn't mean you should really call it a "safelane whatever", and fast lvls and blink were prioritized on slardar so he can take over the game with his mobility, CC and damage amp, which, of course, he would not be able to do if he were trilaned in offlane and ended up at lvl 2, 7 minutes into the game.

Slardar safelane obviously is niche, you'd want to pick it with a PA mid or something -- but either way, slardar is a hero who can go safelane and do a lot of work (and in this game he carried his team as slardar safelane), it's not "bad" it's just not "normal" which confuses low mmr shitters who can't adapt.

SO if I have a safelane slardar in my games, my chances of winning are higher than if I have a morphling or an anti-mage, same as with a PA, more than with a clinkz.

In a high 4k game once I had a SAFELANE SPIRIT BREAKER. And you know what? No one flamed him. It worked out. We stomped. We ended early. There's nothing wrong with thinking outside the box.
Overall however, it's how you play, the actions you make are most important. Not the pick. Lots of low mmr players place a ton of importance on picks, but the main problem is the decision making etc not the pick.. like yes, slardar safelane may not be the DREAM hc but how can you expect your pubs to be utopian? Just adapt and forget about the pick! Nothing wrong with slardar safelane.
