they stopped due to legal actions, the official YIFY magnets were removed, the ones left are copies or newly created ones. Basically, if the guys at Pirate Bay can get caught (and slaughtered) for just providing a website where you can share torrents, the ones actually providing the pirated copies would be rekt. The founder of YIFY did an AMA on reddit (maybe on r/movies can't remember) explaining why he's shutting down his service. Also lot's of games are coming now with stupid online restrictions (pretty much all EA and Ubisoft games) which forces you to be online at all times (or atleast for the activation of the game). Those can't be spoofed that easily as the Keys were back in the days.
There are still private sites providing tons of torrents, but you either have to pay a monthly fee or you need to have a minimal seed count. And usually you need to be invited to those sites, you can't just create an account.
one of the best things about living in switzerland is that it isn't illegal to download torrents. (although uploading is)
mos tof the big sites have been shut down is the problem though.
Yes i do get it there are still torrents available, but I am talking period of 1 year in which things changed alot. i mean i get it they had problem with law and shit, but before it was, 1 page dies, 2 new are born. kickass attacked, but new and better kickass revived 1 week later. Now its not like that and it seems 1 by 1 big torrent hosters are dying without new ones coming.
I red yifi ama, and he said that he stopped cause he got 1 serious threat that he should stop. guy that uploaded more than 6000 most popular movies in very good quality trough 6 years got only 1 threat, funny. He also said that torrents for music are not needed cause you have sites like spotify and youtube, that movie uploaders are getting shutdown and they really have no motive to keep on going (he said he could go on, but didnt want to) and only things that are exposed are videogames which, like you said, are different now and its based more towards online editions. so yeah, look like piracy is dying slowly.
piracy per se isn't really dying. You still download video, or music editing software which otherwise would cost you thousands of dollars. The thing is, there are like 4 audio workstation and 6 video editors which are popular, they each have prominent versions which may be old but are still used regularly (like Windows XP few years ago), also it's usually worth to put in time to create a crack for the newest big version, and it does take a lot ressources to crack a program like Cubase, which is secured by an authentication USB stick they send you after purchasing and confirming that you've purchased their program.
I don't understand torrenting a movie. There are tons of sites you can watch on without having to download so why bother?
Just download Bitlord. It's a completely free torrent website with built torrent search engine. Thank me later
The age of downloading is gone and over. Just stream like everybody else ;) You can even stream 4k nowadays!
Use Movie torrent sites, dont ever look on torrent holder sites, there are too many that lie about quality.
Same with games use the skydrown site to download torrents since kickass is ded
I've also found it difficult to get torrents lately. Fortunaly Internet speed has improved in the past few years so its now possible to direct download movies (which is much easier to find than a torrent)
Also you can stream movies and series in HD on many sites and if your internet isn't fast enough to stream HD then its possible to get applications that allow you to download Videos from sites that usually only allow streaming. For example You cant normally download YouTube videos but there are apps that let you do it. (I've downloaded a few TI6 games for the sole reason that I wanted to watch them in HD but my internet cant live stream that. I then let the video play on youtube at lowest quality for a while so that person still gets the view)

like, its so hard to find popular movie, I dont even want to talk about those marginal. if yifi doesnt have it, forget it (and they started to remove large portion of it) and games also. games like nba, fifa, pes were literally 2 clicks away and had 2000 seeders in their peak. Now you really need to dig on the net and if they have 15 seeders, you are lucky. ofc, i get it is illegal, but is era of getting free stuff over?
