Im not good at playing this hero, i think its harder than chen, but when i randomed and i got visage, i usually go playing it without picking his ultimates and concentrating on stats, making it carry and playing it with mjollnir desol hurricane pike , and if the game is hard i usually build armlet too.
But considering that visage is a little bit hard to play, and its really hard to farm, i usually go ganking mid, and so i can get the items ive said
You could make it work. Mid Visage pretty decent on pubs if you're not laning vs invoker, his armor passive helps against harass. Get lvl 6 asap with medallion and do stuff. Maybe get a blight stone and get some towers with your birds. If you have Drow on your team then even better.
Timing birds in stone form for the next fight might be hard , so just summon then when a fight breaks out . Usually try to use them to right click for a few seconds then use the stun , and repeat . Ratting with visage is pretty non-existent , damage is good for only about 5 seconds .
I really like Aui's play style although I never got around to analyzing his replays so I end up just setting up for more team fight control and ganks.
there was a time wayy back, that i ran visage mid and got like 7 quick wins in a row. 15k+ every game.
but nowadays thats not so viable.
I might try and dig up a few AUI replays, i recall his c9 days where he'd come out with Aghs, AC, medalion at like 25mins and stomp

Been a while since i ran visage, what's the most optimal playstyle atm. assuming micro isn't an issue.
Aui_2000 used to do the perma splitpush with birds/farming enemy jungle with them. which in turn 'stole' Gold from the enemy team and applied pressure
which he would end up with bullshit crazy items really quick.
other ky or chinese style runs thier birds with thier hero most the time and focus more on just having the control in fights..
