Its strong vs hero with lot of units (e.g syllabear, PL, terror, brood) but considering how much it cost, its very risky to buy it. Sven doesnt need more cleave damage. Echo sabre is more helpful than A battle fury.
Probably extremely situational. If u have heroes like dark seer magnus and opponents who like to clump up in fights. And u have a two-swing window before u die, then maybe it's worth getting it. Which is probably never. Or if u r arteezy.
Once I got it because there was a furion that kept on sprouting me during fights. Other than that, you most likely don't need it. Sven with echo sabre should be more than enough wave clear, and obviously other damage items help.

I suggest getting battle fury when you're dealing with high-armored heroes like DK or TB since cleave damage doesn't take armor into account. Since Sven's cleave stacks additively with Bfury, it would be a nightmare for the said heroes. Ideally, you have the option to take down a support first while being able to deal a larger amount of damage to the high-armored enemy heroes through cleave provided you land a good stun or is given a good setup by your teammate. You should read the article on Cleave Mechanics some 4 or 5 articles ago.

Your correct bout the cleave dmg but it wont happen all the time that you can slice a support unit with a 'tanky' carry near him. In a real time clash, thats very difficult to do.
And battle fury is not a cheap item. At 4500 gold you can almost buy a Dag + Echo Sabre. Or even a BKB. Ignore that heavy armor heroes. Besides, thats not what your aiming for. Your aiming for a one-hit-delete heroes with your stun + god strnght.
