^10 is fine, if you "fix" it. I'd keep ten, cuz you will have to pay for it at the end of this month.
@Peekaboo, try verifying the game files through steam. Sometimes faulty config files can cause this.
Also, try one of Valve's other games to see if you get the same error. This will let you figure out if it really is VAC or DotA.
highly considering it, if this keeps being shenanigans.
Reinstalling dota, apparently when i uninstalled steam, it took dota with it.
If this fails, i might revert back to WIN 7 or 8.1
@wazsnu
I just did that earlier, no difference.
I can play custom games, just not matchmaking. Everything else in the dota client was running smoothly.
My windows 10 isn't activated? maybe that's it, i tried a keygen but with no luck.
As my legitimate windows was in a boot loop, so i gave it a cracked win 10 to get through
Haven't heard of Windows activation preventing Valve from working, but then again everytime I work on a windows 10 computer, I make sure it is activated.
What OS did you upgrade from?
It has been an issue before... http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3240945
8.1 that was stuck in a recovery loop. I was doing the 8.1 -> 10 upgrade and it got stuck in a recoveryloop that was impossible to bypass without complete formating
Oh shit man. You can activate your 10 with your windows 8 key. Gotta type some shit into CMD, then do some steps. If you want help with that, just add me on steam so I am not blowing up their forums.
The only AV that was on a fresh install, was windows defender, and i deactivated it with the same issue.
I'm re installing dota now, but i'm actually stumped
There is a process in the system which is attacked to steam when u run it.
Run steam and dota2,then through the task manager (I am not sure how it works in 10) look for any process in process tap which looks strange, then end it if there is one.
I highly doubt if anti virus can trigger VAC expect u are using an unknown one.
Also don't bother contact steam support or post in their dev forum.they wont answer u.
Try seeking help in steam community is much better for ppl there.
i checked everything in my Task manager earlier with no luck, however once dota re installs i'll try again.
I only had 3 process's running, and background applications were all windows.
the only thing i could consider stopping vac was 'microsoft antimalware protection' and ' Antimalware service executable'
Both of which are windows opperations
Does this VAC error also affects your CoD? Running Steam client as Admin usually works.
Edit: Verify cache after you ran steam as admin...
i got this issue and the one and only solution for me is to reinstall steam and dota. delete dota 1st then steam and install it back.
hope helps you
Had the same problem when I was trying to play from college computers. Here's what you can do:
1) check if you're in admin mode and run steam as an admin too
2) there is a steam service.exe somewhere in bin folder. Try to run it manually with admin mode
'microsoft antimalware protection' and ' Antimalware service executable'
End the and try.See if anything changes.
1. Completely exit Steam
2.Right-click on the shortcut which you use to launch Steam
3.Select "Run as Administrator"
4.Launch Steam again
5.From the Library section, right-click on the game and select Properties from the menu.
6.Select the Local files tab and click the Verify integrity of game cache... button.
7.Steam will verify the game's files - this process may take several minutes.
8.Once the process is completed, the Check Window will automatically exit
He who plays games on windows 10 is as insane as mel gibson in real life.
seriously get a real system like windows 7.
Great success, Re installing Dota 2 seemed to fix the issue.
There must have been an error in the download
Thanks for the help people

I've tried everything i can think of, from Game cache, re installing steam, disabling firewalls, CMD resets, running as admin.
