I forget all about my momentary introspection because I realize I've won. I walked away with 500,000 yen that day, but can't help but feel that I came close to winning something much larger.
The worst part about Kindle Direct Publishing is that their censorship process is completely opaque. Their entire policy is a single sentence: "What we deem offensive is probably about what you would expect." In other words, there is no policy at all.
I posted a story titled "Martha Washington's Finger Blasting Who-dun-it". It was a story about our first first lady Martha Washington solving the mystery of who stole a valuable butter churn, with a lot of squirting scenes thrown in. There's a scene where Martha sprays down Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemmings to break up an lover's quarrel, and another where she prevents a barn from burning down. Great scenes. The story was accepted to KDP, no problem.
So I figured "Martha Washington's Cum Gargling Mystery" would also be accepted. But no, blocked. I changed it to "Martha Washington's Semen Swallowing Mystery." It was accepted. Now for some people this would be fine, but here's the thing: in the scene where Martha interrupts the first continental congress and turns it into a blowbang, she wasn't just swallowing this cum. She was gargling it. It fact, it was actually the loud sound of her gargling that prevented an indian attack. It's a crucial plot point, and now it's not reflected in the title.
Not only that but she never swallows cum in the story. She gargles then spits, even after solving the mystery of the missing loom. This was to build up anticipation for the next installment in the series, "Martha Washington's Piss Drinking Detective Team." But KDP ruined that for me.
