needs bkb & blink. Falls into the naix curse or enemy getting force staff after stomp or before. 1-2 fail stomps could make or break games. IMO this current meta centaur is more useful. He falls into counter picks versus spectre or mirana etc...
Could still lose to MOM drow or slippery Slark, if he's focusing other heroes.

with the minus armor strat, dazzle was very picked also

Concede, Slardar was picked more due to his ulti than to initiate fights. He alongside with Dazzle get you -30 armor in 2 secs LOL
the whole problem with him imo is that the fact he is completely single target dmg dealer.. in this current meta you need heroes that can do lots of AoE, 5v5 fights are constant, maybe thats why he isn't picked very often, but I dont really know
he is good but there are strong options for AOE initiating (naga, void, for example) carries

Armor can't go past -20 though.
IMO he's too easy to kite. And his anti kiting ability makes him squishier, which will be punished by coordinated teams. And he doesn't offer much as a whole. He doesn't have aura, he can't clear waves, he can't split push, he has no flashfarm so if he has a rough start he will stay behind.
Oleksandr farming wise he is pretty much like CK, there is no ways to catch up in farm once you get behind
in the other hand, with a blink dagger only he is ready to fight
Trends, trends, trends.... He was a top carry back in february/march but then fell completely out of the meta and wasnt even picked once during ti4.
He hasnt been changed at all. The metagame wasnt that different back in february. Also deathball 5 man push, pioneered by team empire. So it really has to be about trends.

-Armor is different now from in WC3. It was better in WC3, but it got capped at 71% damage amp, which was -20 armor.
There is no cap in Dota2, but it's just not as much damage amp.
For instance, 71% damage amp is around -50 armor.
This is the location decision, compared with other forces heroes, such as centaurs, oxen, Magnus, he needs the economy, but the effect is not necessarily better than them. Only as Jones appears.

In dota2 armor can go under 20, and if i well remember, you need around -50 armor to do the job of -20 of dota
(basically -5 is almost as strong in dota2 as in dota, but when you go far under 10, there's an HUGE difference)

slardar is not a carry, by himself, he cann't do anything unless heavily feed, (unless you consider venge to be carry -which she is one of the best representant among alche/bara/viper/wk etc....-)

Why are sven and naix hardly picked and why is wraith king only used as a support? Cus they are kitable. Easy to kite heroes don't do well in pro play.

Naix got crushed with the range change on open wound, cause he no longer can max damage skill (+taxis heroes no longer played + open wound having less range even at max lvl + bad pusher)
sven is however a bit harder to understand why he is not picked, with that mana free dagger. he can also push/split push which is great in current meta. The two reasons I would see (apart from people forgetting him) would be the trouble he has to get rid of one single dude without his ult and also the fact that viper and razor are overpopular
Honestly I thought that game where navi had venge as their carry they would have been way better off with Sven

Now that I think of it compare doom's ult effectiveness to slardar and it's pretty insane.
Why do none of the top players consider wk a carry? He has a scaling dmg ability with his crit, in my view he's as much a carry as like mirana. Is it cus he can't flash farm? He might be better as a support in top play but that doesn't mean he can't carry and he is always a carry in my pub matches.
Pro teams still transition him to carry occasionally they just don't safe lane farm him.
WK suck as a carry cause he is fucking easy to kite, even naix is harder to kite. In addition, wk has no (0 !!) lane presence, you cann't let him alone, or he'll get raped. that's the total opposite of what a carry is supposed to do.
If you have no trouble to understand that venge isn't great at carrying, then i don't see where you see a problem with wk.
Lots of people play mirana as a carry and many would disagree with you. I'm not saying I do but some people on this forum will defend mirana carry hardcore.
You can't let wk alone or he'll get raped so he's not a carry. Huh? Don't most hard carries have poor lane presence without farm? Some just happen to have escapes like anti mage, pa, pl etc.
Anyway I don't disagree with how he's used at pro level or really care, I just think he has good abilities and a scaling dmg ability, given some farm he does well in that role. I'd easily make him a 1 spot in a pub.
