    I've been testing it lately, devour grants you extra passive gold, Scorched Earth becomes built-in radiance, infernal blade blade has 3 seconds of coooldown, more dooms equals more fights and utility, and extra survival (spell lifesteal) and mana for refresher orb

    seems like a good deal for doom mid or off, (the timing of octarine in offlane 15min-18min)

      ok but it cost 5000 gold and your hero has 0 armor. So what is the idea to have naked octarine at 15 mins with boots? 1600 hp with 2 armor?

        if "testing it lately" means it worked in one game out of one, sure.

        anyone can state the benefits of an item in a vaccuum and make it sound good.

        e.g. mask of madness must be amazing on dark seer because he has really low attack speed and agi gain which means mom basically doubles his dps, he has good base armour so the armour loss doesn't matter and he can surge + ion shell before using it so the silence doesn't matter.

        midas into mjolnir is really good on cm because she has a 200 attack speed talent at lv 20 and these items help her quickly farm to get this talent. wow TI10 ana strats leaked

        when you're looking at buying items you should compare them with what you could buy instead, and what you could do with those items in the same timing where you would only have octarine components. any item on it's own can sound good because if you spend more gold ofc your hero is better than it was before. but can you do better for less gold is the question.

        you could build items with better buildup that do the same thing so the enemy doesn't punish you for having 4k gold of nothing in point booster + voodoo mask, and then if octarine is actually good for that game, then you can go for it later.

        besides lowering doom cooldown, none of the other things octarine does is unique, or make your hero do something it couldn't do before (for example a blink lets you initiate if you previously lacked the range to)

        lower devour cooldown gives you more gpm. so does a midas or any item that helps u farm, and u get it 3k gold sooner so you start snowballing sooner, plus you get levels faster so you get the level 15 devour gold talent sooner.

        spell lifesteal at the end of the day just makes you more tanky. a hood / pipe / halberd / vlads / crimson whatever the team needs would do that too, and all of these items are easy to build - so you get them sooner, build an advantage earlier, get gold from snowballing because they help your team win fights, and you don't need to lower devour cd when killing towers, then roshan and then the enemy team also gives you gold.

        if you really want spell lifesteal then voodoo mask gives half of what octarine does for a fifth of the cost, though i think the only hero that would actually use a casual voodoo mask well would be bristleback.

        is -1s infernal blade cooldown useful? yes. is paying 5k gold worth it though? probably not. chances are you aren't able to use it off cooldown anyway if you're going phase boots into octarine and the enemy has any kind of disable, so that 3 vs 4 second cooldown doesn't make a difference, and all it does is increase your damage output. lots of items do that.

          i won't say you would never get the item on doom but it's not strong enough to justify rushing it first. cheaper items have smoother and stronger power spikes.

            I check for the following when testing item builds.
            1) Cost to Effect ratio.
            2) Item build up.
            3) Synergy of items with hero.
            4) Power spikes around items.
            5) Real game scenarios.

                    Like Androgynous said, it’s not bad, I can see scenarios where it could it could be a great item pickup, but it’s not a first-item rush thing. I can honestly say I’d prefer to see a Doom greaves for a first item, over octarine. Armor, mana, survivability with the burst heal, aura for teammates.

                      I would rather have dagger/sb/drums as first item and as a 3rd/4th item i would rather have refresher than octarine .

                          Tried it several time and i could assure you, it sounds good on paper but in reality you have no spike.
                          - Cd reduction is not much to offer. 40 second reduction while sounds good on paper, but you need something to break linken with his terrible casting time.
                          - Stats were meh, but you could have the lesser price for Shiva guard with tons of utility and better stats. Even aghanim sounds much worth with extra DPS and lockdown
                          - Unless you're building radiance and taking those DPS talents, it was horrible. Even Vladmir and/or Vampire fang has better utility for lifestealing component

                          I rate octarine on Doom 3/10
                          not much of use beside cheesy lategame/ turbo mode play.
