Learn farming patterns. Learn how to properly Itemize and stop feeding in the late game. Those are the three most glaringly obvious things you do wrong. Pick more Game impactful heroes. Nyx Dagon vs BB and LS? Useless Undying vs Void, Huskar? Useless. You Don't Buy Stats much- You fall off and have no game impact in mid game in most games you lose.

Do you thing spamming np will get me out?

Max Stirner is my daddy uwu

          So i should counter more?

          kowareta

try beating bots first, no joke

            varjager

As safelane carry jugger and ursa should work, mid razor and viper. I dont know if people even play support at herald but if so phoenix dazzle ogre lion cm.

Max Stirner is my daddy uwu

Thats the problem because of my internet i play a lot of bot games (unfair) and i win most but im used to the predictability

Max Stirner is my daddy uwu

Im a support player at heart but in herald its a bit too hard

                  kowareta

try not to dying against bots then, its so important, im still doing this

                    Feachairu

yeah, spamming any hero should be ok for u to climb

no,just spam one hero dont care about counters since you probably cant do it effectively yet to counters

just spam a hero, watch replays from good people to understand the hero and solo rank it like 30 times u should climb

Max Stirner is my daddy uwu

In bots even unfair a herald player like me can carry with cm or io

                        Feachairu

yea dude dont practice vs bots lmao i dont think they'll work unless you know some kind of weird ass tactic or something to practice

how long have you been playing dota?

If you want my advice pick 3-5 heroes for position 4 and 5 like Veng, Lion, NP and play those heroes 3-5 times in a row. Then switch. And Alternate- If you pick those same heroes you will start to notice patterns naturally like what heroes you suck vs or heroes you can kill ez with that hero and start to learn itemization and picking. Go to the heroes page on Dotabuff and utilize it. it shows you common builds Items and win-rates vs certain heroes.

                                    CAESAR KING OF APES

Don’t pick support. Pick either carry or mid. Learn farming patterns, and laning. There is not a single player in the world that started as a support, and got anywhere with it. To be a good support you need to be a good core, and vice-versa. Even the best support players in the world started as cores. When you understand laning, farming a little bit better, and get decent mmr (let’s say 2-3k MMR) you can go back to supporting. Supporting in herald is pointless.

                                      kowareta

^ and then ppl in 2k blaming each other why nobody picking sup!
good job man, intense logic over there

                                        MuLLi

Just don't play any hero which needs team play! No Bounty hunter, no IO,no no no etc!!!

Go some heroes which can win games by them self and u have to learn to play em!

I suggest WK which is best solo carry of the game. U just need to be ready to play 100 games as WK to learn it and then u can raise all the way to immortal bracket.

                                          miiigz

If you want to improve at Dota in the long run, don't spam heroes and play a little bit of every role.
It's like chess: you need to understand what other players are doing (allies and enemies).

                                            SuperMage

                                              1.Get good at last hitting.
                                              2. Understand the mechanics of the game ,like pulling the lane back by abusing the creep aggro, can help you a lot. it's really important in lane phase at all the lanes (especially mid lane) to constantly get the creep aggro and pull the lane backward so you can last hit easier.
                                              3. Buy more regen items at the start of the game. You always need at least 6 tangoes + 1 salve (or 2 Iron branches to use the tangoes on them) to survive the early game unless you are a core that can heal himself e.g. lifesteeler or you have a support that can heal you e.g. dazzle or warlock.
4.Buy even more regen if you have run out of regen in laning phase. Don't hesitate to buy extra tangoes or salve (and bringing them with cor) in the early game. It's always better than taking a trip to the base.
                                              5. Be more aggressive. Use your spells to harass the enemy or even farming.
                                              6. Always try to farm the lane rather than the jungle. Farming creeps will give you more gold and XP. You should consider farming on jungle only if you are too afraid to show up on the map or you have already farmed the creeps.
                                              7. Check your teammates and your enemies inventory! It's extremely important to know what items your team and your enemy have. You should also consider informing your allies about important item pickups by your enemy. For example, if you see a Blink dagger on an enemy Ursa, you should immediately alert your allies (by alt-clicking on his items).
                                              8. Don't be on Auto-pilot mode! Use your brain! You should not build the same items every single game! You need to use your Items to : 1. Solve your problems 2.Cause problems for your enemies. In order to itemize correctly, you should first try to detect your biggest problem in the game and then try to solve it by items. For example, Imagin that you are playing Jugg as carry and there is a Tinker player that is constantly killing you and your team. You can't kill him because you can't catch him. So in this situation buying a Blink dagger on Jugg can be much better than buying another damage item. Because as long as you can't catch him, the amount of damage you can deal doesn't matter at all!
                                              9. Buy Black king Bar!
                                              10. Even if you are Pos 1 carry you should always buy detection(Dust/Sentry) for yourself to secure the kills.
                                              11. Be flexible! You can't always play mid or carry!
                                              12. Watch replays

                                              ⌛

Hi there , and thanks for reaching out.

I’ve been playing dota since I was 17, am 29 now. Two years ago I friended a Hungarian 6k player who, for one reason or another, tried helping me in my never ending and backwards quest to be top dota player. His name was kiril and these are the points he tried to teach for a long time.

Like you, I thought being versatile gave me an edge. The reality is that’s a large reason why you can’t gain rating. All the elements above posters have mentioned are valid, but can be under the umbrella of playing heroes that you’re really good at. What are some criteria of being a master of your hero ? Things that have been mentioned like:

ItemIzation, last hitting, etc. if you want resources on how to get better at these things let me
                                                Know.

If you check my recent game history, you can see my od stats in the last few matches . Notice I’ve mostly played void, who I have nearly 300 matches played. I’ve played so many matches on void, to the point I have timings set for items, farming patterns, etc. also you need to be able to 9 slot your hero, that is, being able to fill your entire inventory and swapping actives like satanic manta and orbkb. I average 95% Last hits in the trainer, which is the best tool to use to master your attack animation . The more matches you play on one particular hero and role , the more times you’ll play against the same types of drafts and individual heroes . This as a result develops a better understanding of what to do and where to be every game

For example, if I’m void against natural blademail carriers like an axe or sb, I’ll be sure to get a satanic, arguable as a first main item. This way I can bash them to death filling the five second delay during a team fight

So in sum, and it’s working as kiril said it would, your mmr will go up the better you get at the game. It has nothing to do with allies usually. If you are better than the other 9, you will overwhelm your enemies with superior farm, mechanics, and rotations. If you look at my last match played, I was on a team of feeders who tried to throw . It didnt happen because I was too strong and know how to use my actives better than the average rating player of thrat match.

According to kiril, counters and drafting make no difference until about 4K mmr . Until then pick a role and a hero that fits that role that you enjoy playing , and stick with him or her for 50 games. That was his advice.

I personally have several people my pool across all three roles, but I’ve been playing many years for a very long time.

For example my top cores in safe lane are void tb am and Luna. For offlane es and clock. For supports disruptor warlock ss wd etc.

I think that’s my favorite feature of dota plus; rewarding players for mastering a hero, since that’s the key to “get out of the trench”

no no no no lol that's pretty bad seriously

i'll give you a tip for those who are like in archon/guaridan/crusader/herald etc (wanted to put legend here but some of my legend friends actually understood shit)

don't overthink dota, stop trying to do this and that or make this compulsory etc or reading patches like madman

what you guys need to do is just to watch some good high mmr player, and just copy whatever they are doing on that game(one replay might not be enough, but seeing five of em and just try to copy whatever they are doing should be good)

there's no need to try to create "original" stuff/playstyle/etc first when you people still get your basics wrong or something

giving you folks my two cents since i saw many people think this game is a world class level chess or something you need to become professor at,most of the "high rated players" (7ks etc) are even just 15-20 year old guys who probably doesnt understand basic high school sciences or math

                                                    BULLSHIT!
u know why he told u that? cause he is 6k player, yeah as a 4k player i can say i dont give a fuck about matchup in 2k game, same as the guy said that to u! u dont give a shit about enemy pick cause u are far better than them.
but is that how i climbed from 1k to 4k? NO. u must care about matchup cause u are not far ahead of ur enemies!
dota is dota, meta is meta, no matter which bracket u are, when u are playing with same skill opponents drafting matters!

these ppl who telling u this stuff, never been 1k , mostly played wc3 before and calibrated at high brackets from the start.
as a former 2k player, i've got 1k mmr with playing ember against pl, tb, tinker when they were populer and AA against huskar, morph
                                                    its totally about countering!

                                                    Dark Hunter

Countering is a big part really. Any game i play Enigma where enemy doesnt pick silencer or rubick/warlock is almost a guaranteed win (unless they outplay us). But i agree with sticking to 2-3 heroes. When you know your heroes strengths and weaknesses you can start focusing on other things like patterns and ganks etc. Ofc its also nice to know what every hero does and what spells they have, but that just comes with experience. Just play some normal for a while untill you got a good understanding of the game then get back into ranked

Edit: i calibrated 700 mmr (no joke) and it took me over two years to get to 2k just because i refused to learn from my mistakes. Now in the past 2-3 months i've climbed from 2.3k to 3k without much struggle.

i think what that 6k player mean you need to learn how to manage your counters lol, since its manageable most of the times(or maybe he refers to spam some hero,or have a hero puddle)

i mean,as long you not using some cheesy shit like huskar meepo brood etc who's useless if countered(tbh brood when it's peak so stronk and idc counters lmao) or like what you say enigma to silencer(which the silencer just need to fucking save the ult until you press bh) counters can be playable, especially when the enemy is bad

Spam spam spam spam spam. To get better at something you need to reduce the number of variables. If you play the same hero over and over you can focus on improving last hitting/positioning/game sense etc. Rather than worrying about itemization/power spikes/abilities etc.

                                                                      Soggy Bottom Boy

I give you the ideas what I did to climb from Crusader 1 to Crusader 7:

1st: Play support and learn how to pull. Both, in safelane and offlane. Look youtube vids. Learn to stack camp before 2 min and/or how to pull through. No need fighting when you can get 2 levels above enemy by minute 10.

2nd: Past laning stage, push out lanes. If you make sure lanes are pushed out you will more than you loose in low mmr.

3rd: wards and dust. Embrace them. Offensive wards > defensive wards if you remember 2nd point.

4th: Always have tp with you. Always.

5th: watch minimap. At any given point you should be able to tell who shows where and who is missing.

6st: Whenever you have an advantage you look at minimap and you ping your team to take an objective. Don't chase heroes, don't dive. Don't go where there are no creeps of you. Go to most pushed lane and take a tower. Retreat after tower is down and push out lanes. Or take rosh if all lanes are pushed out.

I calibrated Crusader 1 and am almost Archon 1 now. My win rate is good. I am contantly climbing upwards, despite almost only playing position 4 or 5 support.

                                                                        kowareta
