Pick up fighting games. And actually learn and play online. Learn the nuances and not just look at the fancy finishers. I’m sure it has a much smaller community but they have literally changed my mindset when playing dota... let me explain

I used to be into single player games where you can learn the mechanics and eventually be a god in the game basically when you get good enough. Then when I moved to multiplayer games I struggled with the difficulty but being an athlete irl I enjoyed the competition. But eventually the fact that my team can consist of a bunch of toxic strangers really put me off sometimes, as is the case with Dota. Then someone gifted me a fighting game, my past experience with them was all just mashing spamming and looking at cool finishers but this one interested me enough to learn more about it. Eventually I went online and lost A LOT. But that only made me want to get better because I knew it was all fair. My opponent was generally better than me there was no team that let me down and it was a decisive match befween me and him. And there is no other game that can consistently provide that for me. The feeling of being without a doubt beating your opponent. And going back to dota I realize there are factors I cannot control and only so much I can do, and for some reason that made me wnjoy Dota more. I became a good sport, I accepted the undeniable luck factor in games and have accepted that it all in fact is just a game.

For anyone wondering it was MKX that got me into fighters. I currently play Dbfz and Smash and would love to play with anyone interested im friendly matches :)

Stacraft II is a better side game if you want to improve both in terms of macro, micro, decision making, map awareness and execution.

      undeniable luck factor

Winners force the luck, losers blame it.
Should always consider the worse scenario in terms of luck and take opportunity of its triggering.

Basically this, if you have ever wondered why cant you repick hero in drafting phase anymore in dota, its because draft in 90% of the case will decide the outcome of the game, assuming players are playing in the same skill bracket and there is equal chance that both side will win, stronger draft will prevail, if you are outpicked you will have to try harder to outplay opponents and your winning factor will be based on stronger team throwing the game.

This is why smurfing is fun, if i pick a hero and i have no counters i can do what ever i want, if i have counters i can learn to play around them because low skill players cant utilize them properly and i wont be as penalized as much as in my own bracket.

So root from where frustration with teammates are coming from is the drafting phase, when you see someone counterpicking themselvs you know they gonna have a bad time and you will have a bad game because of it, then you win your lane and you see them losing their lane by feeding their opponent and you must be some Zen level Buddhist to not get triggered by this!

oh my, a brilliant, marvelous idea, dota is same like martial arts, chess or, whatever. Means that, drafting is one of the factors that determine the victor. But, it doesn't stop until that. The execution always matter in this case. As you can see, if someone pick Anti-Mage, then enemy counter pick with Bloodseeker, it doesn't mean that you lose the game already. You can ask the AM to avoid BS, or gank BS early so AM can't farm, or hope that BS is noob. Because BS can't counter him anymore in the late-game. (except in extremely rare cases that AM is fat but brainless). Another example i want to suggest, as we know PA is op (even nerfs cant take her down), should you take her farm away, she's useless.

What i want to say is, use.ur.brain. Thank you. (lot of archons and below are missing this)

BS is no longer AM counter my dude they reworked his spells and blink range. ;)

And ruining PA laning stage matters only in High rated games, bellow 4k it doesnt matter since games take 40mins anyway, wich is more than enough for her to AFK farm her core items.

^+Self-proclaimed: we can't deny the drafting impact but the execution counts as well.
If you have smart cast + quick hands, you can avoid the ES echo slam as PL with doppelganger (except if ES manages to shift-queue it fast enough somehow). I'm not even going on the micro miracle-style-fake-tanky-illu bait scenario.

pick Anti-Mage, then enemy counter pick with Bloodseeker

Bloodseeker countering Anti-Mage is a spreaded false assumption as BS is countered by an off cooldown portal scroll in early.
He will either need an euls (2.8k g in a non-damage item) or a basher (with AS or RNG to proc it while you tp) to interrupt it, hence, letting you get counter items (this moment when you manfight the BS under rupture).
This figure is even more true in 7.20 as magina get use spell shield + blink (in case BS cancels animation => bloodrage => rupture) during the long-ass animation.

As you said as well: you can always counter draft the wh**e with decent controls that go through her bkb

Well if you can consistenly 1v9 as meepo or broodmother congrats, you’re not having fun. I’m not saying it couldn’t be fun. But it’s not for me and I’d get bored eventually. I’m not saying there’s only luck, I’m saying that compared to aforementioned fighters, you can get rager, a feeder, a smurf on the enemy, so many factors. Does that make it unfun? No, in fact dota can be the most fun I get from a videogame. When it’s late and do or die, it can feel like that the fourth quarter of a basketball game. But what I’m talking about is the raw thrill of facing someone 1v1 to decide who is better.
