Anyone can get it. Works good in any team. But why do some heroes always get those, and other heroes don't? I'm asking because anyone can get mek if the team needed it. But it seems a more hero-specific item when it shouldn't be.

Eg dark seer & tide always get greaves. Why?

    meteor hammer

tide commonly goes mek, cannot use refresher 2x ravage and mek i think

tide has insane damage block and damage reduction, so he benefits greatly from the low hp bonus armor and regen

ds has pretty high armor and obviously haste, farms very fast although i'm not sure exactly why the greaves upgrade is an every game upgrade for him. i guess the dispel is extremely useful or something

      remember to drink water

I wouldn't say those heroes always get greaves but they both buy mek + mana boots so it's not unreasonable to get greaves in order to open up slots

        Freya 69

Tide, DS and Enigma go early mek mostly as a deterrent to early counter initiations. Like why pros sometimes pick support Naga to go mek; song in to reset, hit mek to heal team, then start the fight over in your advantage. You initiate on that team, you better hit the big ult hero that has a 12 minute mek before all else, otherwise, gl winning that fight. At least that's my fundamental understanding of it. Counter initiation heroes early and mid game that can reset team fights, basically.

Yes so it's a team item right. And if there's synergies with the hero then I understand why u would get it on a hero. Eg hero with creeps and early push like enigma and Chen.

I guess tankiness on tide makes sense (and the fact that u don't need any other item on him lol)

But Still why only some heroes go for it no matter what. And other heroes that could go for it don't, since it is more of a team
Item. Let's just single out dark seer here

Freya. So ur saying any big initiation hero should go mek?

              meteor hammer

i mean i just looked at high lvl games and dark seer gets GG boots 9/10 times and im honestly not sure why

blink/ghost/glimmer/force or even solar all can be higher impact than GG boot upgrade imo

                Freya 69

Well Mek is at its most potent at around the 12 minute mark; if you hit 5 heroes missing hp, it can heal up to 1250 hp with a single use. At 12 minutes, that can go up to something like 15% of your teams overall health in a fight. With that said, I can't say for sure, but I believe it is simply the ability to farm it that fast that makes it so good on DS. That and I think his Q acts as a reset by pulling enemy heroes away from ally ones. That's my most fundamental understanding of it on him in that regard.

Bounty tends to get gg quite often too.

                    Xyp9x

all i know is, if your team wants to push, 1 member should always go mek

                      robert

I don't think your supposed to rush straight gg boots after getting arc boots and mek.

Not all big initiation hero should go mek bruh. There was a time when Mek was good on mid heroes for survivability. SF and Razor mid buying mek was a thing.

                        Freya 69

I think they have to have 1 BIG skill with a decent mana pool by that point. I think it can legit go on Earthshaker if you want to forgo an early mobility item in exchange for the team sustain. He has more than enough mana usage in his skills, though, to make it less effective than it would be on an Enigma or Tide. When their ults are up and they have mek, they hit 2-3 buttons at most in a team fight. Earthshaker might need to spam Totem or save for a wall.

Edit: I forgot to mention this, but I also think its the dynamics of the heroes' skills. Tide, Enigma and Naga can just stay in the back lines and walk up with an ult and mek on hand; they don't actually NEED mobility items if they learn to just be patient. And DS, well, he has an inbuilt haste rune, so yeah. Earthshaker kind of needs the positioning for max effect. It is the way Echo and wall are designed, just saying he CAN carry mek if you want to go that way.

U can get mek on any support hero but some like it better than others. Its mostly cuz it costs too much mana for certain heroes, and there r better options. Mek also doesn't scale well, so its mostly a group early and fight/push item so mids don't buy it often anymore cuz the fast push strat isn't too good anymore. Greaves is usually upgraded if either u need to get rid of silence (oracle, BH) or like the CD reduction and the fact it no longer costs mana IMO. A tide with mek is spooky, but mek + ravage and he barely has mana for more. Similar with dark seer.

Mek on shaker is a bad idea. He needs mobility, and already lacks the mana for it. Fissure and mek and ur tank is empty, maybe one more totem and no more mana. Pretty sure its just blink force almost every game.

there is no reason to not get greaves if u have a mek and mana boots. its just laziness by the carrier not understanding how good greaves is

                                2k indog monkey

                                  Greaves also purges shits right?
I usually get it after other utilities that nobody else gets like force staff
