Is doto really a complex game or we're the ones making it difficult at times? in General Discussion
Bad Intentions

Is this really a deep or complex game? or sometimes winning is just a simple formula that we overthink sometimes? Thoughts?

it is just like no-limits poker - simple rules but incredibly complicated to master. too many variables to be simple.

Perfectly optimal DotA2 play (in the game theory sense) is impossible to calculate within the lifetime of the universe once Icefrog finally releases an approximately balanced version.
A "perfectly complete" bot who can play approximately optimal DotA2 better than the best human player/team, even if you assume the current agreed upon pro playstyle is the "best" and not merely the best we currently know of, would probably take a few hundred years to fully reduce DotA2's map/hero combinations to a numerical statement of advantage the way chess engines do.
A "prodigy" player/team who cannot be beaten by other players, is universally recognized as the best player ever, and demolishes all enemies for 5-10 Internationals, does not yet exist on the DotA scene and probably will appear once every 20-30 years, if the example from chess, go, and other sports are true.

This is why all DotA2 players are "shit" at the game. By such unreasonable standards, no one is good.

But for most of us, DotA2 is like street basketball or football. We are not NBA/UEFA stars, but we still have fun beating the other team. At our level, DotA is simple. You just have to be "less bad" or "more lucky" than your opponent.
