Because people who pick io are tryhards who memorize every single hero's armor, every spell cast time and shit
You play in normal skill and even in low VHS people have no fucking idea how to play the hero, I have only seen good IOs when I unfortunately played unranked against people who are 5ks and 6ks but have low unranked rating because they stopped playing unranked years ago, and every time I got completely rekt by some stupid shit like tiny io, sven io or ck io, it does not matter. Guess the strategy is harder to pull off against people who are as good as you are, but I have watched streams with something x io pairings, dual mid or safelane, does not matter, and it is generally very successful if people can coordinate. In trench tier ranked (I stopped playing ranked when I reached 3k so I do not know what happens above) IO is a free win if the enemy picks it, in unranked where people of all sorts might happen to queue (my unranked would be around 3.7k - 3.8k) you can get much higher MMR opponents that will simply shit on your face so IO is still something to be feared.
Well, teamplay wins dota. Io is the most team-reliant hero.
Also, much like earth spirit, the hero is terrible in casual hands, but a game stomper in a seasoned player's hands
Im 2k try hard io player, i have aroound 230 games on io, 40% WR as support, 65% as solo mid, lately i did few jungle with not much success. ...io is best fun for me, im proudly mastering him now

Im always seeing io as top 5 worst opponent for alot heroes which is weird considering he has abysmal win rate n pick rate.. somebody please enlighten me on why hes a terrible enemy to face?
