He's not useless but it does seem like slardar and tide are overall better. Slardar's stun is better and on a ridiculously low cd for an aoe stun. For example svens is 2s duration, 13s cd. Slardars rank 2 is 1.9 on 8s cd and scales to 2.5 rank 4. Cent's maxes at 2.75 on 13s cd. Slardar's stun has better duration and cd than most single target stuns, like dks duration maxes pretty high 3.25s on a 9s cd, but single target. Wk's is 8s cd but only lasts 2.
And then on cent his return dmg is maybe not that valuable as people will just ignore him. Which I guess lets him throw out a bunch of double edge nukes.
It's hard to say when to pick him cus both slardar and cent can run at you in lane at 6 and kill you, slardar with his ult amplifying all his dmg since crush is also physical, and cent with his stampede and double edge. So cent doesn't really have any advantage in lane.
Centaur is a lot tankier since slardar takes extra dmg from sprint and cent has return so I guess if you need a pure frontliner then cent might be better. But those cases are rare and amp dmg is just so good and so is crush.
Cent is like poormans slardar except I like cent vs slark more . Slark just purges off amp damage anyways and in a team fight if he try's to take out centaur he'll be wasting a lot of time / injuring himself plus centaurs nukes hurt slark a lot early game
IMO, Centaur's biggest plus is his Aghs Upgrade. Use that at the right time during a fight and you basically just win. Its 4 seconds where your entire team takes 60% less damage so the enemy cant stand and fight you and they cant run because your entire team has haste. In addition, Double Edge and Return allow Centaur to farm faster then some offlaners like slardar and he can even kill ancients relatively early with the help of return. Which means he should always be able to get the aghs. If you're not panning on getting Aghs at some point you may as well pick another offlaner.
He's kinda like razor, he's overall decent but just doesn't specifically counter anyone. Basically pick him when your team needs a frontliner and your team has enough damage dealers (tb, Zeus, ta, ect)
Like razor? Razor specifically counters a bunch of right clickers that he can drain all dmg from.
Statistically centaur is 3-5% higher in every bracket cept 5k over slardar though. What gives if slardar is better on paper? Aghs upgrade that good?

Yeah but that's like everybody...if you're saying he counters everyone who does right click damage that's like saying am counters anyone with a mana pool.
I meant more like on dimensional right clickers, melee mostly, like PA, Troll, maybe slark, cus razor also kites them. I guess he can sort of counter ranged ones like drow and sniper but razor can't kite them.
