Faceit is where all the players who think they are better then their mmr play together: Means lots of toxic people who give up insta when they get behind.

                To the two comments above:

I mean in an "objective" mentality it's just for items.

We can probably agree that everyone likes dota for their own reasons. 1Some want higher mmr and want to brag/talk about it like they get paid to do it, and pretend everyone in the community cares as much as they do about their mmr, see "lesh pickers." 2Some people just want to play dota and have fun and don't really care about rmm or being great at dota in any way (the unranked people who pick a range hero and build a bfury). 3Some people are just competitive and play rmm just for that, but not really in a desperate hope to get to some "eventual" imaginary mmr. They just want to get 'into' the game, but not at the expense of having fun and taking things too seriously.

Unfortunately it's been a thing of dota where you tend to have to sacrifice having fun for playing competitively, and you have the option to turn into a flaming asshole or you just casually play, or you bounce between the two. It's mostly meant to be a halfway point and also gain exposure for fpl to the community so that the higher end leagues (where there are defined skill brackets) can be maintained. Eventually the people who care more about their class of skill and the people who don't care about winning very much will find their way out of the open tournament part. Also, if you're a forward thinker, it'd be nice to see more leagues/tournaments turn up that are free and easy to access. More options is usually better than less.

The main reason it's attractive to a competitor is it's a tournament, every gamer/athlete likes a tournament. You win something at the end too. Go figure.
