Recently I've been playing a bit of DK... aaand it hasn't been going so well. So if anyone is experienced with this hero and could give me a few tips, that would be really helpful.

    exthious

Skill build on that hero is extremely situational, however you need to get your level 6 ultimate dragon form as soon as it's available. Apart from damage all this hero need is the duration stuns, engage, disengaged, and initiation. I'm not a professional on that hero but from my view you need to be the tank, your damage source is dragon form.

Stay passive in the mid lane, w8 for the enemy to go for gank call the SS and Ult+towerpush, honestly theres not much u can say about DK, he is a strong solid mid hero who scales rly well. U will be able to tank most of the harrasment and iwth the addition to the Breath fire now its even easier, if the opponent is a ganker than u will be havin a gr8 time coz he will lose the tower quite quickly, or he will be forced to stay in lane and even then he will still lose the tower most of the times. As for the items i dont belive theres much discussion here aswell since BKB/AC/MKB and the rest whatever u want.
1 thing that id like to point out not only on DK but on most of the heroes, is dont skip items make sure to have 4 inventory slots + 1 TP before goin for a big item whatever that may be.

Mostly u should have Power Treads, stick, bottle Jango,TP for the early game
then go on BKB or if u prefer shadowblade, or if u think u dont need neither of them an Armlet on DK is pretty gr8 aswell.

        Consclusion:
        1) Dont take unnessesary risks
        2) Enemy leaves lane = tower gone
        3) BKB for balboastyle, Shadowblade/silver edge for Ganking potential(not my favourite tho), Armlet for gettin some early dmg/hp/armor.
        4) I belive goes without sayin the skill build on lvl 7 should be like 4/1/1/1.

I hope it helped even for a bit.
        Regards DaV

ok i saw ur last 3 games as DK and u r in Normal/High Skill bracket so i dont want to sound radical but its better to forget about
          1)Medalion
          2)Solar Crest
          3)SnY
          4) Vlads (>.<)
          5) Mjollnir on rare ocasions 9 out of 10 times AC is better.

Its not that these items dont do the job its just that they r situational and since u r tryin to learn DK u will grasp it urself whats situational later, u need to understand first the mainstream.

          Cheers :)

Thanks for the advice, I went for vlads and mjollnir because that game we were holding off mega creeps so the aura coupled with mjollnir helped us hang on for a while.

your skill and item build hurts my eyes

              Dire Wolf

Solar crest is pretty nice on dk actually, very cheap, works well with his high armor.

Skill wise you can pretty much always go stun, armor, max fire breath and ult. The stun doesn't scale that well per point and more armor is usually overkill. Fire breath will speed up your farm a lot if you bottle as well.

Item wise bkb is pretty essential, then you just go Ac + heart and stomp. Some people love silver edge ganking build on him too but I think it's overrated.

                HaylingZar

@Dire wolf, thanks for that, I will adjust my skill build accordingly.
@Gotvet, while I appreciate the sentiment, it doesn't actually help unless you tell me how to make it better.

                  Dire Wolf

DK is a good mid game fighter too though so going stuff like drums or dominator is fine too.

                    Androgynous

no fire + stats illidan build never forget :)

stun is 2.5s at level 1 while subsequent points only add 0.25s to it, so it's not worth putting more points into it. a dk with a 3-1-1 skill build is more likely to get kills than a dk with 100 less magic damage but half a second of more stun in the early game with a 1-3-1 build.

besides the benefit of more kill potential although you don't have much pre 6 anyway unless your opponent overextends, it helps you push the wave to secure the rune, secure last hits with the higher damage, harass the enemy, reduce the enemy's farm because their attack damage is lower and the nuke can force them out of lane temporarily (to heal), and help you get a level advantage because denying is easier (either by forcing them out of lane, or by reducing their damage).

which obviously outweighs the benefits of maxing stun, which is that it helps you get kills, but breathe fire does that too, and better.

                      Dire Wolf

I forgot to also say solar crest/medallion help with your farming a lot as well. Ever try clearing woods on dk without spamming fire breath with just a drums and treads? It's painfully slow. Medallion takes creep armor from ~4 to -3 which is around a 35% dmg increase on ALL dmg, not just base like a qb or vlads. And the cd is so short it's up for two creeps in a three creep camp. And mana regen which DK needs badly.

Totentanz to The King: M ...

He is a team dependant hero. He is supposed to be a carry, but has a very obvious and distinct lack of damage so you really need good damage dealers with him in the team or get really farmed. He is also really really tanky very early on and helps pushes really well, so you should try to play around that.

                          Dire Wolf

If heart is too daunting to build you can go an early sange too, finish a manta/s&y later or halberd. Sange is incredibly easy to build.

                            Gluttony

@Dire Wolf Why would a DK need that Manta Or even SnY???? with that amount of gold he can get an armlet or bkb anyway

                              Miku Plays

Wht can DK ppayers say about farming a MoM on him?

                                HaylingZar

Thanks for the help guys, even though I just lost another game I was able to take down some towers and get better KDR than previously.

                                  Filthy

I have not played dragon knight enough to give much advice however from my experience level 16 dragon form is game changing in teamfights.

                                    Gluttony

@Hatsune MoM is situational but ruins ur natural tankines i belive, still its not advisable to some1 whos tryin to learn DK.

                                      Androgynous

why are you still not maxing fire by 7. also max armour 2nd not stun. 0.75 extra stun isn't much when you've already got 2.5s with just 1 point in it, while the 9 extra armour makes a huge difference to your survivability, and that's one of the strong suits of the hero.

imo it's rarely - if never - worth getting bkb as a first item, since the nerf where buying another bkb in the late game doesn't start it off with 10s of immunity anymore, and it doesn't help you farm faster. a bkb first item is a "play not to lose" item rather than a "play to win" item imo.

i.e. getting BKB as your first item doesn't help you win the game so much as slow down the loss. you can't catch up in farm - which would help you get ahead and therefore help you win - because it gives no extra stats that help you farm. you're paying 1400g for the recipe, which essentially gives you the active and 2 extra item slots - and the reason it's keeping you in the game to begin with is because of it's huge duration when it's 10-8 seconds.

but when it comes to the mid / late game where it's 5 seconds because you're forced to activate it every fight to be useful because it's your only major item, that's when it starts losing you the game, because the bkb doesn't save you since it's duration is no longer as high, and you don't have any other items to compliment it, because it doesn't help you farm.

other reasons you lost are probably general inefficiencies that apply to every hero, not just DK, like farming patterns and whatnot.
